St. Philomena’s College, Mysore, in collaboration with St Joseph Hospital and ODP, Mysore, organized a one-day free medical camp on 17-12-2020for the benefit of public at Murthy road, Nehru Nagar, Mandya, on December 17, 2020 (Thursday). The medical camp was conducted at Urdu Government School and its organizing team included Mr Chandan Samuel (Assistant Professor) and Mr Mathew C (Assistant Professor) led by Dr Prashanth D.A (Assistant Professor), Youth Red Cross Officer and Ms Yamuna, ODP. The medical team consisted of Dr Farha, Dr Deepa, Paediatrician, Dr Helen, Duty Doctor and Ms Vani Ganapathi Hegde, PRO of St Joseph’s Hospital, Mysore.
The free Health Check-Up Programme started at 11.00 am at health camp site with an inaugural ceremony. Dr Prashanth, through his speech created awareness on Covid – 19 and general health among the people, provided general health care services and counselled them on basic healthcare and hygiene. The main objective was to make people aware of the health issues so that everyone could easily understand the concept. While registrations were being done, Dr Prashanth interacted with the people and created awareness about the Ayushman Bharat – Arogya Karnataka Scheme and its benefits.
Every patient went through the Blood Pressure (BP) check-up. After that, they were sent to their respective doctors where they were given the right directions regarding their health. Majority of the people who attended the camp were suffering because of polluted water and lack of drainage facility. People were diagnosed with various common but seriously neglected problems such as diarrhoea, cholera, acute flu, chronic back pain, swelling, watery eyes and high/low B.P. There were also a few cases, where problems related to urethral discharge, the kidneys and cancer were detected; these cases were further referred to the referral hospital, where they will be properly taken care of. All the children were provided with medicines and vitamin tonics and those suffering chronic illness were given free medicines.
The health camp was a huge success with overwhelming response from the local people.
