Report on NSS Regular Activities 2018-19

The regular activities for the academic year started on 30th June 2018, from then onthe regular activities was conducted every Saturdays from 12 to 1.30 P.M. till the end of March 2019.

The activities that are taken up are as under:

  • Clean campus drive.
  • Removing plastics within the campus. ( Plastic free zones)
  • Swach Philo’s Abyan.
  • Cleaning the sports ground.
  • Organised Blood donation camp on 07/09/2018 with college youthRed Cross in association with St Joseph’s Hospital Blood bank.
  • Planting saplings within the campus.
  • Guest lectures on leadership skills, communication skills, Personality development and women empowerment to NSS volunteers from resource persons.
  • Celebrating National youth day and NSS day by Visiting old age homes and contributing free food.
  • Drama/Skit on social evils like women harassment.
  • Debate Competition on “SwachBharat”is a responsibility of Government or public

Report on NSS Annual Village Camp 2018-19

The NSS Annual Village camp of St. Philomena’s Degree College, Mysore was held at Odakehalla, Hanurtaluk, Chamarajnagar District from 10th to 16th February 2019.

On 11th February Monday, the NSS camp was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Cristopher, Parish Priest Sacred Heart Church,odakehalla. Village Gram Panchayat Members MrEshwar, MrsRathnamma and MrsShandanamary also graced the occasion.

The project covered under the Annual village Camp included planting Saplings and daily Shramadhan, in which, Volunteers cleaned the entire village streets, Main Roads,Anganavadi, Church premises & cemetery.

Awareness campaign by way of  jathaon Cleanliness, Importance of  construction of toilets, Legal awareness, illiteracy, conservation of natural resources, rural development, Eradication of drug abuse, Effects of drinking Alcohol was organized.

Every day in the evening, cultural programmes, were arranged by the NSS volunteers to create public awareness with regard to the Rain Water Harvesting, Importance of construction of toilets, AIDS, cleanliness, illiteracy, conservation of natural resources, rural development and elimination of the social problems like dowry, drug abuse and effects of drinking Alcohol inside the village. The villagers also participated and were enthralled by the cultural skits.

Village mapping, Population education and socio economic survey was done by BSW students. On the last day a debate competition was organized for all the NSS volunteers on the topic Women empowerment.

The valedictory function was held on 15-02-2019. It was presided over by Rev. Fr. Dr. Bernard PrakashBarnis, Rector, St.Philomena’s Degree College. Rev. Fr. Cristopher, Parish Priest Sacred Heart Church, Rev. Fr. James, Procurator Bishop’s House, Rev FrRoni Ravi KumarAsst Director of Post graduationwere the chief guest of the function.

Other teachers present in the Valedictory Function were, DrPrashanth D.A, from History department, Prof  ElizerVishwas from Physics department, Prof Mathew from social work department and Physical education director Perianayagamal

The valedictory address was given by Rev. Fr. Dr. Bernard PrakashBarnis, Rector of our college. MrGowtham, NSS volunteer and Camp leader presented the detailed camp report. The Annual Village camp was conducted by NSS programme Officer Chandan S Nandihal. The NSS Volunteers left the camp on 16th February after lunch with a heavy heart
