World biodiversity day 2021
REPORT ON COMPETITIONS CONDUCTED ON
WORLD BIODIVERSITY DAY
The Department of Zoology organised competitions to observe the International Day for Biological Diversity, which is celebrated globally on 22 May. The day is proclaimed by the United Nations to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. This year, the theme was “We’re part of the solution” which reminds us of the active role that all of us have to play in solving the problems of environment degradation and associated threats to biodiversity.
Considering the lockdown situation due to the pandemic, the events were conducted on virtual mode. Mobile photography competition with the theme “Small marvels of nature” gave an opportunity for the students to appreciate the beauty of many living beings that co-exist with us. Through Poster making on the theme “We’re part of the solution for Nature”, the students expressed strong messages about environment protection.
The department aims at encouraging students to showcase their talents and most importantly, in developing a sense of responsibility and belonging towards the environment. We congratulate the winners and appreciate the efforts of all participants.
