Plantation Drive Organized by Youth Red Cross Unit of St Philomena’s College Mysuru

- To inspire and encourage the students and the general public to live sustainably in harmony with nature.
- To create an awareness to have solidarity with mother earth.
- To bring a realization to students that this planet is our only home.
On the occasion of the World Environment Day which was celebrated globally on June 5, 2022, the Youth Red Cross Unit of St Philomena’s College Mysuru, in association with General Hospital, Srirangapatna, organized a plantation drive at General Hospital, Srirangapatna, on June 10, 2022. The plantation drive was an attempt towards creating a cleaner and greener environment to live sustainably in harmony with nature.
The plantation drive was organized in the gracious presence of Rev. Dr Barnard Prakash Barnice, the Rector of St Philomena’s College, Mysuru, Dr Ravi J D Saldanha, the Principal, Mr Prakash Cutinho, the IQAC coordinator, Dr Prashanth D A, the coordinator of Youth Red Cross Unit, the faculty and the students of Youth Red Cross Unit and the officials of the hospital.
In his address, Rev. Dr Barnard Prakash Barnice, highlighted the importance of planting more and more trees. He put forward the example of flood which affected the district of Kodagu badly. The health officer emphasized the importance of protecting the environment and explained the need to plant trees. The chief officer of the hospital thanked the team of the Youth Red Cross Unit of St Philomena’s College for their initiative and participation in the plantation drive. Dr Prashanth D A welcomed everyone and reiterated the significance of planting seeds and nurturing them.
The first sapling was planted by Rev. Dr Barnard Prakash Barnis and the health officer of the taluk. Then, the members and volunteers took major part in plantation and planted about one hundred saplings in the hospital campus with the motto of Making the World Greener.
