EXTENSION & OUTREACH ACTIVITY
Department of Physics, St. Philomena’s college (Autonomous), Bannimantap, Mysore – 570015 conducted an extension and outreach activity on 4th July 2022 (Monday) at General Hospital, Srirangapatna, Mandya District with a view and motto “A Day with the patients and the Covid Warriors”.
Approximately 45 students and four faculty members of the department went to Srirangapatna General Hospital by the college bus. We took the prior permission from the concerned authorities and according to our plan, we first met the Chief Medical Officer Dr. Maruthi and conveyed the message to him that we have arrived at 2:30pm.
Dr. Maruthi eagerly welcomed us and shown the different departments in the Hospital. Dr. Prashanth, Assistant Professor, Department of History of our college helped us in this venture.
The students in the form of small groups visited the different wings of the Hospital. Some of the students learnt about the Registration process of the patients and the students helped the staff of the Hospital in this regard. The other group of students visited the Blood Bank wing and learnt about the testing of the Blood group and the importance of the Blood Bank with more information regarding the negative group of blood sample. The students themselves tested their blood group with the help of the hospital staff. The other group of students visited the X-ray lab and got the first hand experience about the x-ray techniques. Some other students visited the kidney Dialysis centre and got the experiential learning about the dialysis of the patient. Some of the students visited the ENT wing and got the information regarding the health care about the ears. The other students group visited the other wings like Orthopedic, children ward etc.
We have conducted a programme with the doctors who served as Covid warriors during the Covid -19 pandemic. The programme was conducted with the blessings of Rev. Fr. Bernard Prakash Barnis, Rector of St. Philomena’s college.
In the programme Dr. Venkatesh, Taluk Health Officer, Srirangapatna, Mandya District was the Chief guest. For this programme Dr.Maruthi, Chief Medical Officer, General Hospital, Srirangapatna, Mandya District was presided. Sri Krishnappa, Vice president, Town panchayat, Srirangapatna, Mandya District and Smt. Nalini, president, Arogya Raksha Kavach, were special invitees from the local public bodies.
Dr. Prashanth welcomed the gathering and the dignitaries. He spoke about the importance of the Doctor’s Day. Dr. Maruthi narrated the problems faced by the doctors and nurses during the Covid -19 pandemic.
Sri Krishnappa enlighten the audience with the special note about the care taken by the Government hospital staff to treat the Covid patients. Prof. Shobana Thomas, HOD & Convener, felicitated the Doctors and Nurses who worked whole heartedly during the Covid-19 pandemic. We came back to St. Philomena’s college at 5.30pm by our college bus.
