PM Modi: “Follow the Rule, India will Rule”

Mysuru, Sept. 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a students’ convention at VigyanBhavan in New Delhi on September 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. The PM’s address was screenedatseveral Universities and Colleges across the county.

Prime Minister Modi’s speech was live webcast at St. Philomena’s college auditorium. The PM addressed the gathering on the occasion of PanditDeendayalUpadhyaya’s Centenary celebration and 125thanniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s Address at the Chicago World Parliament of Religions. The theme of the programme was “Young India, New India – A resurgent nation: from Sankalp to Siddhi.”

PM Modi started his address by saying that people remember 9/11 only after 2001 terrorist attacks, but there was another 9/11 in 1893, which must be remembered. He mentioned how Swami Vivekananda, at the mere age of 30 years had won the hearts of people all over the world. Swami Vivekananda always had two approaches while delivering speeches. One was when he was abroad. He spoke with confidence, pride and our country’s culture and traditions. Second was when he addressed the citizens of the country. He spoke about the flaws we had and how to overcome them.

He said that, “Jan seva is Prabhuseva” implying that service of humankind is greater than worship itself. He asked the people if we really respect women, if we look at women with dignity and he said that if there are people who do so, he sends his salutations to them.

Two events that marked India on the world map – Rabrindranath Tagore winning the Nobel Prize and Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago address and both hailed from Bengal. PM Modi said that it is time to convert ideas to idealism now that about 65% of the Indian population is between the ages of 25 to 30.  The Ramakrishna mission started by Swami Vivekananda persists due to its strong foundation, action plan, vision and mission. There has been no dilution or diversion whatsoever in the mission.

Raising concern on the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ he asked the citizens if we had the right to chant VandeMataram if we litter our county. He stated, “PehleShauchalay, phirdevalay (Toilets first, temples next)”. He also took pride in saying that he belonged to a country where the daughters insist to marry on the condition that the house consists of a toilet.

Talking about the prominence of skill development, Mr. Modi said that it was essential for the youth to separate knowledge form skill. His prime focus is to make the youth independent. Make them job creators and not job seekers. He also stressed the need for innovation and urged people not to be scared of failing in life. Universities are the best place to bring out creativity he stated.

“Swami Vivekananda gave the concept of ‘One Asia’”, Prime minister said. This century belongs to India and India has the biggest market for youth. Vivekananda encouraged “Entrepreneurship”, “Agricultural revolution” and “Fight against social evil”.  He came out with a new quote ‘Follow the rule, India will rule’. PM Modi concluded his speech by saying that the real power is vested in people and not in politics and urged the citizens to fight the evil within.

The live broadcast at the college auditorium saw the presence of Rev. Fr. Bernard Prakash Barnis, Rector, Dr. Ruth ShanthaKumari, Principal and various other teaching faculty members. Students from various departments also gathered to be a part of the screening.
