St. Philomena’s College conducts Model United Nations Conference- 2017

           St. Philomena’s College Mysore conducted a Model United Nations Conference on 10th July 2017 on the agenda “Progressive Solutions to Israel- Palestine Conflict”. The UN committee selected for the conference was Security Council. Bhargav Reddy, a subject expert and alumni of St. Philomena’s College was the Chief Guest. Dr. T Ruth Shantha Kumari, Principal of the college, Fr. Bernad Prakash, Rector, Prof. Sujatha Devi B, Head of the Department and Department of Economics, Prof Anand C, Dept. of Political Science were also present. Anirudh Bharadwaj M Presided as the Secretary General of the Conference and Mohammed Omerul Haq presided as the Chairperson to the conference.

Speaking to the audience Bhagrav Reddy told the delegates to consider the problem on the ground level rather than taking a side to the issue. Bhargav advised the students about the various approaches that the students could take in suggestions for resolving the issue. Then, Principal Dr. Shantha Kumari said “Hunger for power and supremacy has made people insensitive. The war struck countries has made countries lose humanistic values which is affecting common people living.”

The student delegates who represented various countries discussed the issue in detail and tried to bring out successful resolution to adopt measures to solve the issue. Students brought out two resolutions which suggested the countries in recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab- Palestinians citizens of Israel equally. The next resolution suggested the member nations to provide economic support and create conducive environment for development.

Awards were given to the best delegates and best position paper. Best delegates: Amogh Vinyas, Aditi MV, Nimra Firdoz, Sudhanva Vasisht and Kishor Bhat. Best Position papers: Arjun S, Amogh Vinyas, Nimra Firdoz, Someshwari Paromita Ridhi and Aika Ahmed.
