World Environment day was celebrated on 5th June 2017, by adhering to the theme, “Connect humans, back to nature”. The chief guest was Rv. Fr. Staney Almeda, The Director, Organization for Development of People (ODP), other dignitaries being Rv. Fr. Leslie Moras, (Episscopal Vicar), Prof. Ruth Shantha kumari, Principal and Rv. Fr. Bernard Prakash, Rector- Manager. The event was inaugurated in the indoor stadium at 3pm.

The chief guest who delivered the keynote address, covered multi-dimensions of present-day challenges pertaining to mother Earth. He mentioned that recognizing a day for environment clearly means it needs to be focused on, as it’s at a cautioning state. He elaborated on the initiatives taken up by ODP such as conserving rainwater, planting on hillocks and as an outcome, bringing together farmers, weaker sections and women. His special mention was on their scheme where people celebrating birthdays or organizing other social events can adopt plants, grow them and promote the cause. He stressed that people should mark areas to plant and take up planting measures. It’s also the moral duty of people to protect and sustain the nature as service to God. Finally, he welcomed students to join hands in their initiative to contribute to the cause as youth have a greater comprehension of the global phenomenon.

In her address to the students Prof. Ruth Shantha kumari, mentioned that college has requested the Forest Department for 100 saplings in order to plant in the campus.

Earlier Rv. Fr. Leslie Moras welcomed the gathering. The celebration marked an end by MSW students enacting a skit for awareness, followed by adopting and planting the saplings by the students.
