Introduction:
Organization of the research-oriented workshop in the institution helped to promote the research inclination and scientific temperament among the faculty members to meet the contemporary need of educational requirements. In continuation with the Workshop on “Writing Research Proposals to Funding Agencies- Part I” this program provided a platform for intellectual deliberation on funding agency and proposal methodologies. The workshop helped the faculty members to realize the importance of research in higher education and promoted the writing of research proposals to funding agencies.
Objectives:
- To create an awareness of research collaborative activities with other institutions/organizations.
- To provide a platform to make the faculty members involved in minor and major projects.
- An insight into the methods of research proposal writing.
- To encourage the optimum utilization of funding agencies for research- promoting work.
- To motivate the faculty members to effectively deploy their research knowledge.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysore in collaboration with the college Research and Development Cell (RDC) organized an effectuated Workshop on “Writing Research Proposals to Funding Agencies Part-II” on 5th of May 2023 in Data Analysis Centre of the college. Dr. S. Krishnaveni, Professor and Head of Physics Department, BoS, University of Mysore, Manasagangotri, Mysuru was invited as the Chief Guest for the intellectual deliberation on “Writing Research Proposals to Funding Agencies Part-II.”
Dr. S. Krishnaveni, an eminent scholar and researcher in the field of Physics effectuated her presentation with the most essential need of academic progress to inculcate research inclination and encouraged faculty members to vest their academic intellect for the research sustainability in higher education. She emphasized the foremost thing in writing a proposal for a funding agency is to have appropriate methods for the proposal preparation and approaching agencies with quality and relevant proposals.
Dr. S. Krishnaveni illustriously mentioned the framework for the identification of the research proposal topic and the funding agency, and suggested institutions to go through rules, regulations, and guidelines before the submission instead of vain efforts in research without research strategies. Educational institutions should adhere to academic eligibility for the utilization of funding agencies before the screening of proposals. She instructed that researchers should specify the nature and objective of minor and major research in the proposal.
She stated the importance of a literature search related to a specific research topic to realize the lacunae between the past and present research nature, ideas, and methodologies. She suggested the availability of a funding agency is the essence of the research framework while approaching a funding agency with research proposal.
Dr. Krishnaveni also stated the remarkable importance of research key indicators like Introduction, Research History, Problem Statement, Objectives; Research Methodologies, Review, Budget, and Outcome and the importance of quality Curriculum Vitae of a researcher with effective research-centric temperament. She advised the educational institutions to have collaborative activities with funding agencies for the holistic development of the institutions,
She highlighted the importance of Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary oriented research for the contemporary requirement in the research field. She effectively deployed the remarkable role of research strategies for qualitative and research relevance. She explained the methods to be followed for the formulation and framework of a research proposal systematically. She encouraged the faculty members to publish research papers in qualitative journals like Scopus and Web of Science.
Dr. Krishnaveni also stated to take the optimum utilization of the local and state government, NGOs, national, international and other funding agencies like the Building Material Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC), Ministry of Education, Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources, Ministry of Science and Technology as the government recognized bodies and Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST) as the state- recognized agency for the research proposals.
She concluded her intellectual deliberation with the demonstration on “Applying for the Funding Agency of VGST” and instructed the institution to work effectively to establish the institution’s research wings for quality education.
