Introduction: Philo’s Rovers and Rangers unit of St. Philomena’s college, Mysore, in collaboration with the Mysore Municipal Corporation, organized a cleanup drive to commemorate World Environment Day on 5th June 2023. The event aimed to raise awareness about environmental conservation and encourage the local community to actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean. The cleanup drive took place in and around the college premises, with Dr. Sowmya P leading the Rangers unit and Mr. Mathew C. leading the Rovers unit.
Objective: The primary objective of the cleanup drive was to promote environmental consciousness among the students and local community members. The event aimed to:
a. Raise awareness about the importance of a clean and sustainable environment.
b. Encourage responsible waste management practices.
c. Instill a sense of civic responsibility and community engagement.
d. Promote teamwork and leadership skills among the participants.
e. Create a cleaner and healthier living environment for all.

Participants: The cleanup drive brought together members of Philo’s Rovers and Rangers unit, led by Dr. Sowmya and Mr. Mathew C. respectively. Additionally, college students, faculty members, and volunteers from the student community actively participated in the event.
Activities: The cleanup drive comprised various activities aimed at achieving the objectives set forth. These activities included:
a. Pre-event planning: The Rovers and Rangers unit, in collaboration with the Mysore Municipal Corporation, organized the logistics, including necessary permits, equipment, and waste disposal arrangements.
b. Mobilization and awareness: Prior to the event, the unit spread awareness about the cleanup drive through posters and announcements in the college and local community. The aim was to encourage maximum participation.
c. Cleanup operation: On the day of the event, the participants assembled at the college premises equipped with gloves, masks, and garbage bags. They formed teams and systematically cleaned various areas in and around the college.
d. Waste segregation and disposal: The participants were guided on the importance of waste segregation. Separate bins were provided for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. The collected waste was then disposed of appropriately, following the guidelines provided by the Municipal Corporation.
e. Education and engagement: During the cleanup drive, informative sessions and discussions were conducted to educate the participants about the impact of pollution on the environment and the importance of adopting sustainable practices. This helped raise awareness and fostered a sense of responsibility among the participants.
