SERVICE IS OUR MOTTO
Introduction:
The Bharat Scout & Guide is a voluntary, non-political, and educational movement that aims to develop young people in various aspects of their lives. This report focuses on the activities carried out by the Rover and Ranger unit of St. Philomena’s College, led by Mr. Mathew C as the Rover Leader and Dr. Sowmya as the Rangers Leader.
Purpose and Principles: The purpose of the Bharat Scout & Guide movement is to contribute to the holistic development of young individuals, enabling them to reach their full potential physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. The movement follows the purpose, principles, and methods established by Lord Baden Powell in 1907. It emphasizes inclusivity, welcoming young people from all backgrounds, irrespective of their origin, race, or creed.
Composition of the Unit: The Rover and Ranger unit of St. Philomena’s College comprises a total of 30 students, with 18 rovers and 12 rangers. The unit provides a platform for these young individuals to engage in meaningful activities, develop essential life skills, and contribute to their communities.
International Cultural Jamboree: In the academic year 2021-22, the Rangers and Rovers from St. Philomena’s College had the opportunity to participate in the International Cultural Jamboree held at Moodbidre. This event provided a unique cultural exchange platform for young people from different countries, promoting understanding, friendship, and global citizenship.
Organizing Health Camps: The unit actively engages in organizing health camps, recognizing the significance of physical well-being. These health camps aim to raise awareness about various health issues, promote preventive measures, and provide basic healthcare services to the underprivileged. Through these initiatives, the students learn about healthcare systems and develop empathy and compassion for those in need.
Blood Donation Camps: St. Philomena’s College unit of the Bharat Scout & Guide also actively participates in blood donation camps. By encouraging students to donate blood, the unit helps address the constant demand for blood in hospitals and supports life-saving treatments. This activity not only instills a sense of responsibility and altruism but also raises awareness about the importance of blood donation within the college community.
Cleanup Drive on World Environment Day:To commemorate World Environment Day, the Rover and Ranger unit organizes a cleanup drive. This initiative aims to create awareness about environmental issues, such as pollution and waste management. By actively participating in the cleanup drive, students contribute to the local community’s cleanliness, fostering a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
Special Invited Talks: The unit arranges special invited talks for students to inculcate values and develop essential skills. These talks provide a platform for experts and experienced individuals to share their knowledge, experiences, and insights. By exposing the students to diverse perspectives, the talks help broaden their horizons, enhance their understanding of various subjects, and inspire them to become responsible citizens.
Conclusion: The Bharat Scout & Guide unit at St. Philomena’s College, led by Mr. Mathew C, the Rover Leader and Dr. Sowmya, the Ranger Leader, have been actively engaged in promoting the holistic development of young individuals. Through their participation in international events, health camps, blood donation drives, cleanup activities, and special invited talks, the students have gained valuable experiences, skills, and values.
