CULTIVATING RESILIENCE: NAVIGATING PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL GROWTH IN SOCIAL WORK
On 14 December 2023 at 3:00 pm, An orientation Lecture was conducted on the topic- Cultivating Resilience: Navigating Personal and Professional Growth in Social work by Dr.Parashuramak.G, Professor and Chairman of DOS & R in Social work ,Tumkur University. Dr. Parashuram spoke about social work and it’s importance followed by the skills that is needed to be cultivated during the learning stages and positions offered to the graduate after the completion of the course (MSW) and the career opportunities after graduating as a social worker. Next in detail he spoke about fostering the growth mind-set as a social worker, how to learn from mistakes, how to tackle the challenges that may occur and how a social worker can progress in the field by learning new skills and exploring new areas of interest. He also spoke about the professional goals and growth – how to navigate and keep progressing in their career as a social worker, importance of professional networking in social work, most importantly how to navigate professional identity as a newly qualified social worker. The session also dealt with question like:
(i)Why a growth mindset is important for social worker’s,
(ii)How to develop a growth mindset and learn from mistakes and failures,
(iii)How to unleash our full potential in any fields,
(iv)Importance of workplace learning for social worker’s.
He emphazised more on Competency Ice-berg Model, which explains about the Visible (skills, knowledge) and Hidden (attitude, values, self-image, motive & trait) intent ,which is necessary to build a personality with this model he mentioned the components essential for any human to out-workin any institution/industry he or she is working. The session was impactful. In a nutshell Dr. Parashuram explained thoroughly about the significance of personal and professional growth in social work and how to navigate themin future.
