WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
Objective & Preamble
The World Environment Day celebration at our institution aimed to raise awareness about environmental issues and foster a sense of responsibility towards nature among students and faculty. The theme for the year 2024, “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,” was central to the day’s events, emphasizing the urgent need for sustainable land management practices to combat environmental degradation and climate change.

Event Proceedings
Master of Ceremony
The event commenced with Dr. Deepa V., Assistant Professor, Department of BBA, taking charge as the Master of Ceremony. Her articulate and engaging manner set a positive tone for the proceedings.
Philos Anthem & Invocation
The ceremony began with the Philos Anthem, followed by an invocation by a PG student, which created a reflective and solemn atmosphere appropriate for the occasion.
Watering the Saplings
The dignitaries symbolically watered saplings, highlighting the commitment to nurturing the environment and underscoring the importance of active participation in environmental conservation efforts.
Welcome Address Mr. William Joseph, Assistant Professor& Head, Department of English, delivered the welcome address. He warmly greeted & welcomed the dignitaries in the form of Rev.Dr.Lourdu Prasad Joseph, Rector, St.Philomena’s Educational Institutions, Rev. Fr. Gnanapragasam, Administrator, Prof Dr. T.S.Harsha, Chairman-Department of Environmental Science,KSOU, Mysore, Dr Ravi J D Saldanha, Principal, Mr.M.Nagaraj Urs, Vice Principal – Academics, Mr.Ronald Prakash Cutinha, Vice Principal – Administration, Mr A Thomas Gunaseelan, IQAC Coordinator, Ms Lydiya Vandana, Controller of Examinations, Dr Alphonsus D’Souza, PG Coordinator, Dr Deepa.V, IQAC Co-Coordinator and Ms Jeevitha Saldanha, Green Cell Coordinator, Faculty and Students and provided an overview of the event’s significance, reinforcing the need for collective action to preserve our planet
Introducing the Guest Ms. Arshiya Khanum, Assistant Professor, Department of BBA, introduced the guest speaker, Dr. T. S. Harsha, Chairman, Department of Environmental Science, KSOU, Mysore. She detailed his contributions to environmental science, setting the stage for his keynote address
Talk on Environment by Dr T.S.Harsha
Dr. T. S. Harsha delivered a compelling talk on “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.” He provided insightful analysis and practical solutions, stressing the critical role of sustainable practices in combating land degradation and enhancing resilience against droughts.
Short Video Documentary
A short video documentary compiled by Ms. Mirium Precilla J, IQAC office and Mr. John Joseph, System Admin on the importance of the environment was screened. The documentary highlighted pressing environmental issues and showcased successful restoration projects, serving as both an educational tool and a source of inspiration.
Administration of Pledge
Mr. A. Thomas Gunaseelan, IQAC Coordinator, administereda pledge to reduce the use of plastic. This collective commitment was a powerful moment, emphasizing the personal responsibility each individual has towards reducing plastic pollution.
Feedback Collection
The IQAC team facilitated the collection of feedback about the program through a QR code system. This approach ensured quick and efficient feedback, which will be invaluable for planning future events.
Vote of Thanks
Ms. Jeevitha Saldanha, Green Cell Coordinator, delivered the vote of thanks. She expressed gratitude to all participants, organizers, and attendees for their contributions and support in making the event a success.
National Anthem & Planting of Saplings
The event concluded with the National Anthem, followed by the planting of saplings by the dignitaries. This act symbolized hope and a commitment to environmental stewardship, leaving a lastingimpression on all attendees.
