Blood Donation Camp Report
A successful Blood Donation Camp was organized by the Youth Red Cross unit of St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous) in collaboration with the Lions Blood Centre Jeevadhara on January 31, 2025, at the college auditorium. The camp aimed to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and encourage voluntary contributions from the college community to support life-saving medical efforts.
The event commenced at 9:30 AM with a student invocation, setting a positive and reflective tone for the proceedings. Mr. Johnson Arulraj, Assistant Professor, extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, participants, and attendees. A symbolic tree planting ceremony, conducted by the dignitaries, served as a powerful representation of the life-giving essence of blood donation, highlighting its vital role in sustaining and nurturing life.
Mr. Mathew C, Assistant Professor, introduced the Chief Guest, Mr. Girish S.E., President of Lions Blood Centre Jeevadhara. Mr. Girish delivered an insightful and inspiring keynote address, emphasizing the critical need for regular and voluntary blood donations. He stressed the life-saving impact blood donations have on countless patients and underscored the responsibility of communities to ensure a steady and sufficient supply.
The Presidential Address by Rev. Dr. Lourdu Prasad Joseph, Rector/Manager, further highlighted the humanitarian aspect of blood donation. He commended the efforts of the volunteers and donors, recognizing their selflessness and dedication to the cause. Dr. Joseph’s words reinforced the collective responsibility of society in promoting health and well-being.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Deepthi MJ, Assistant Professor, who acknowledged the contributions of the organizers, medical staff, and the generous donors who participated in the camp.
The blood drive saw an overwhelming response, with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff. Under the careful supervision of qualified medical personnel, a total of 86 units of blood were successfully collected, making a significant contribution to the region’s blood supply and saving numerous lives. This remarkable achievement exemplifies the college community’s commitment to social responsibility and collective well-being.
