A lecture by Dr. Shubhakar K. P, MBBS MD DNB MFFLM (Forensic Physician NHS Tayside and Police Scotland, Dundee) on gender sensitization organised by IQAC, was conducted in St. Philomena’s college on 2019 January 18 at 3: 30pm in the college auditorium. The session began with the welcome address of Dr. T. Ruth Shantha Kumari, Principal, who stressed the necessity for both men and women respecting each other. She said that the law of the nature is to complement each other and not to compete. Final Year student, Khadeeja Ali Mohammed introduced the guest to the audience.
Dr. Shubhakar started his lecture mentioning the great achievements that our country gained and then he talked about the pathetic situation of India which includes gender based violence, sexual assault, domestic violence, etc.. He shared the experiences of some powerful women who were the victims of rape in different countries. He also talked about how rape matters and how sexual harassment is different from rape. He emphasized the need for sex education in Indian society.
The lecture was followed by a question-answer session. Mr. Prakash Cutinha, IQAC coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks.
