
Report on theOne-Day Special Lecture on “Application of Employee Relations and Labour Legislation in Factories”

The Department of Postgraduate Studies and Research in Social Work organised a One-Day Special Lecture on the topic “Application of Employee Relations and Labour Legislation in Factories.” The session featured Mr. Gowri Prakash, Head of Human Resources & Administration at NSL Sugars, Mandya, as the resource person. With 24 years of professional experience in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, and administrative operations, Mr. Prakash has worked with leading organisations such as JK Tyre & Industries, Kirloskar Toyota Textile Machinery, Colortone Textiles, and L&T. In his talk, he addressed several important aspects of employee relations, beginning with an introduction to the concept and its significance in organisational success. He emphasised the importance of maintaining a clear organisational structure and adhering to systematic practices in industrial relations. Mr. Prakash also highlighted the need for strict compliance with labour laws and legislations, underscoring that legal adherence is a mark of a responsible organisation. He discussed the causes of employee attrition and the common challenges faced in managing employee relations, while also exploring how public relations, industrial relations, and employee relations are interconnected and how problems in these areas can impact a company’s performance. To conclude, he suggested various strategies to enhance employee relations, including fostering a positive working environment and maintaining effective communication. The session commenced with a warm welcome by Fr. David Sagayaraj, Assistant to the Rector, who presented a bouquet to the guest. Ms. Shirley Cynthia Anthony from the MSW faculty served as the Master of Ceremony, while Mr. Robin introduced the guest speaker. Ms. Nandana P delivered the vote of thanks, and Rajesh, a second-year MSW student, shared his feedback, appreciating the practical insights and relevance of the session. Overall, the lecture was highly informative and beneficial for the students, offering a deeper understanding of the real-world applications of HR practices and labour legislation in industrial settings. 36 MSW Students were present for this session.
