
Report on One-Day State-Level Workshop on Creative Writing and Theatre
The PG and UG Departments of English, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), JSS College, Ooty Road, Mysuru, successfully organised a one-day state-level workshop on Creative Writing and Theatre on [insert date]. The workshop aimed to foster creative expression and introduce participants to the art of theatre and scriptwriting.
Inaugural Session
The workshop began with a formal inaugural ceremony held at the Seminar Hall. The event was inaugurated by Sri. Ramesh Jayaramaiah, Chairperson, Department of Studies in English, University of Mysore. He spoke about the growing importance of literary and theatrical creativity in academic and professional spheres.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Vikram Raj Urs, retired Professor of English, Karnataka State Open University, who provided valuable insights into the confluence of literature and theatre and inspired participants to explore their creative potential.
The event was presided over by Prof. B. V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of JSS College, who lauded the departments for organizing a meaningful academic initiative. Dr. Prabhu, Principal of JSS College, attended the event as the Guest of Honour and offered his encouragement to participants and organizers alike. Dr. Shobha, Head of the PG Department of English and Convener of the workshop, welcomed the gathering and outlined the goals of the programme.
Technical Sessions
Session I: 11:45 AM – 1:15 PM
The first session was conducted by Dr. Udaya Ravi Shastry, a notable writer and translator. His talk focused on “Creativity in Script Writing for Theatre.” The session was highly engaging and insightful, offering a deep understanding of script structure, character development, and the creative process behind theatrical storytelling. Dr. Shastry’s presentation was both theoretical and illustrative, offering practical guidance for aspiring writers and dramatists.
Session II: 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
The second session was led by Sri Manoja, a distinguished artist and writer from Natana, Mysuru. His session was more interactive and practical, focusing on the concept of theatre. Participants were actively involved in various theatrical exercises and role-plays, allowing them to explore the vibrancy and immediacy of live performance. The energy and enthusiasm of the session created a dynamic learning environment, giving participants a hands-on experience of theatre.
Following the technical sessions, certificates of participation were distributed to all attendees. The participants expressed appreciation for the informative and engaging nature of the sessions. The combination of theoretical insight and practical involvement made the workshop a rich and memorable learning experience.
The event concluded on a successful note, with faculty and students alike applauding the efforts of the organising departments and IQAC for providing a platform that encouraged literary and theatrical exploration.
