The Department of Economics, Sociology& History of St. Philomena’s College, Mysuru organized a session on “Financial Literacy”. The lecture was held on 13stof August 2024 at 10AM in the College Auditorium.

Ms. Satya Shree. M, Development officer, ICICI Foundation, Mysuru, was the speaker. Final year student Ms. Vaishnavi welcomed the gathering and Mr. Rahul of Final year BA introduced the guest to the audience. Ms. Satya Sree has an MBA in Finance and B.Ed in special Education to her credit. She has worked as Freelancer, Corporate trainer, Manager in ICICI Prudential, ING Vysya Bank and also served as a Lecturer in Reputed colleges. she was awarded as ‘Best Faculty’ in the year 2012.
Ms. Satya Sree spoke about the importance of financial planning and enlightened the students about savings. She explained the necessity of knowledge and skills needed to make informed financial decisions, manage financial resources effectively and plan for future. She also informed the audience how financial literacy helps individuals to make sound decisions about their money. She stressed on savings which is the most essential aspect of financial literacy, which provides a safety net for unexpected expenses. She brought about an awareness on investment strategies which leads to financial

security.
The speaker threw light on the importance of maintaining CIBIL score to enhance the credibility of an individual to borrow funds and have a secured future. The speaker focused on different instruments of banking transactions. She spoke on the credit facilities like Over Draft for the business community. Ms. Satya Sree focused on the need for Insurance for financial planning and risk management. She discussed some case studies and stressed on the requirement of financial discipline. The speaker explained about the different forms of financial frauds like Credit card fraud, Phishing, investment scams etc. she advised the gathering to be aware of these frauds to protect themselves from the financial loss. Later the session was open for interactions to raise queries and clarify their doubts.

A total of 160 students and faculties attended the session. The students expressed their satisfaction and the feedback was collected. The programme was compared by Yangchin Lamu, Miss Hema of final year BA rendered the Vote of Thanks.
