
Experiential Learning Visit to Rural Development and Self Development Institute (RUDSETI), Hinkal, Mysuru.

The department of Sociology along with the final year students and faculties visited Rural Development and Self Training Institute (RUDSETI) on July 20, 2022 at 10.30 am. The team was heartily welcomed by the Institute trainer Ms. Lathamani who was in charge of orienting about the institute.
Firstly, the team was taken to various rooms like computer lab, electrical service center, tailoring and embroidery rooms where we practically saw the different places where the training is undertaken.
Later we went to a hall where complete orientation of the institute was presented by Ms. Lathamani through ppt. She explained the circumstances which lead to born RUDSETI. She expressed that millions of youths are unemployed and are attracted towards antisocial activities for their livelihood. In order to address this issue, under the visionary leadership of Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala, philanthropist, educationist and a man with a mission for service to the society established RUDSETI in the year 1982 jointlyby Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational Trust, Syndicate Bank and Canara Bank. The Main objective of RUDSETI is to mitigate the problem of unemployment and poverty amongst the rural youth.
In order to address these issues, the institution promotes rural entrepreneurship, provides trainings and assists the rural youth to take up self-employment ventures as an alternative career.
RUDSETI has expanded 27 branches in 17 states of our country and are effectively working for creating awareness on self-employment /entrepreneurship, developing motivation, positive attitude and training to acquire hard skills & soft/life skills. RUDSETI is assisted by Ministry of Human Resource Development. Later Ms. Anitha gave information on the various trainings given at the institute. She explained that trainings are majorly divided into four areas: firstly, the Agricultural Related Trainings which are short duration trainings includes dairying, vermin compost, sheep rearing, floriculture and horticulture. Secondly, Service sector trainings include computer hardware and software, photography, videography, electronic goods and computer repairing trainings are given for a period of one month duration. The Institute also provides training on food sectors, leather, jute and paper bag making. It also provides training on marketing, stress management; customer behavior and different tactics to attract them are the training given under Business sector.
RUDSETI provides complete training free of cost which also includes boarding and lodging and the duration depends on the area of training. Once the training period is completed the trainee will receive the certificate issued from skill India. She explained the complete structure and different levels of RUDSETI at district and local level. The chairperson of the institute will be District Commissioner; it also involves bankers, managers, NGO’s and entrepreneurs. The founder Veerendra Hegde is the National president of RUDSETI. At various levels of board meeting where the need of entrepreneurs will be reviewed. RUDSETI focus more on women empowerment and in order to achieve it many programmes are planned for girls and women like tailoring, embroidery, beautician course etc. One of the cutting edges of RUDESTI training is the post training follow up for sustained motivation among the trainees. Nearly two years follow up through regular correspondences. It also facilitates credit linkage with the banks for setting up of micro enterprises. She informed that RUDSETI Bazaars are organized to provide marketing support to the RUDSETI trained entrepreneurs. This facilitates the participants to get an insight about market trends and customer behavior. Each unit organizes at least one bazaar every year during melas, exhibitions or special occasions in their command area. RUDSETI is very well recognized and has received many prestigious state and national awards for its outstanding performance. Overall, we were very happy to know that lakh together are trained and are been training under this institute unique initiative in mitigating the problem of rural unemployment. After the interactive session all the participants were served with healthy Geni milk, the mixture prepared by the SHGs. overall the visit was very informative and fruitful.
