Introduction
In observance of World Mental Health Day 2025, the Youth Red Cross Unit of St.
Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysuru, organized a meaningful outreach programme
at Aashritha Hospital, Mysuru, on 10th October 2025. The initiative aimed to promote
awareness about mental health, reduce stigma, and emphasize the importance of accessible
mental health services for all sections of society.
Programme Highlights
The event featured a series of insightful and creative activities designed to engage
participants and spread awareness about mental well-being.
- Invocation and Welcome:
The programme began with an invocation song followed by a welcome address by a
student representative of the Youth Red Cross Unit, who highlighted the importance
of recognizing mental health as a vital component of overall well-being. - Expert Talks:
Two distinguished speakers from Aashritha Hospital shared their expertise and
valuable insights:
o Mrs. Varuna Shree, Psychiatrist, delivered an enlightening talk on
“Breaking the Silence: The Importance of Early Mental Health Intervention.”
She emphasized the need to identify symptoms of stress, anxiety, and
depression at early stages and encouraged open conversations to combat
stigma.
o Mrs. Manjula, Clinical Therapist, addressed the audience on “Therapeutic
Practices for Emotional Well-being.” She discussed practical strategies for
managing stress and promoting resilience through counseling and self-care. - Cultural Presentation:
Members of the Youth Red Cross Unit presented a Mime Show and Thematic Dance
Performance centered on the theme “Access for All – Mental Health Support in
Times of Crisis.”
o The mime act depicted the struggles of individuals dealing with depression
and the importance of empathy and support.
o The dance performance creatively conveyed messages of hope, healing, and
togetherness. - Interactive Session:
Following the performances, an interactive session was conducted, allowing students
and attendees to ask questions and share reflections. The speakers addressed queries
on stress management, coping mechanisms, and community support systems.
Outcome of the Programme
The outreach programme successfully:
Enhanced awareness and understanding of mental health among students and
participants.
Promoted positive attitudes toward seeking professional help.
Encouraged dialogue on mental well-being and emotional resilience.
Strengthened collaboration between St. Philomena’s College and Aashritha
Hospital for future mental health initiatives.
Empowered the Youth Red Cross volunteers to act as advocates for mental health
awareness within the community.
Conclusion
The World Mental Health Day observance at Aashritha Hospital, Mysuru, was a remarkable
initiative that combined education, expression, and empathy. The participation of students,
faculty, and medical professionals created a powerful platform for learning and awareness.
The Youth Red Cross Unit reaffirmed its commitment to promoting holistic health and
social responsibility through continued outreach and community-based programmes.
