Introduction
The PG Department of Food Science and Nutrition organized a Workshop on Enteral Feeding – Practical Approaches to enhance postgraduate students’ understanding of the principles, practices and clinical applications of enteral nutrition. The event aimed to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical insights from clinical dietetic practice.

Purpose and Objectives
The workshop was designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of clinical enteral feeding practices. The key objectives were:
- To introduce the principles and indications of enteral feeding.
- To demonstrate various types of kitchen feeds and enteral formulas and administration techniques.
- To discuss monitoring parameters, potential complications, and nutritional assessment involved in enteral feeding.
- To foster interaction with clinical dietetics professionals, thereby exposing students to real-world case scenarios.

Opening Session

The event commenced with a warm welcome and opening remarks delivered by the departmental leadership and organizing team, highlighting the importance of enteral nutrition in modern clinical dietetics.
Technical Session by Guest Speaker
Dr. Chandan Vinay S delivered an in-depth and engaging presentation covering:
- Clinical indications for initiating enteral feeding
- Selection and comparison of enteral formulas
- Methods of delivery: bolus, intermittent, and continuous feeding
- Tube placement considerations and patient monitoring
- Management of complications such as intolerance, tube blockage, and aspiration risk
- Case-based discussions from hospital practice.
- Practical demonstration of the feeds using Ryle’s tubes of 12”, 14” and 16” French units.
Interactive Session
A vibrant Q&A session followed, during which students asked practical questions regarding formula choice, feeding intolerance management, and patient-specific dietetic interventions.

- Organization of focused follow-up sessions on paediatric enteral feeding or home enteral nutrition.
