
A report on Extension Activity @ Montfort

The Department of Sociology organized an Extension activity for children with learning disabilities, located in Montfort school Belagola, Mysuru on March 6 2024. Montfort School is an Inclusive School accommodating children with special needs and integrating them in regular classes and supporting their therapeutically needs simultaneously.The purpose of the visit was to observe the learning environment, interact with the students and teachers, and gain insights into the challenges and strategies employed in educating children with learning impairments.
The school is located in a peaceful environment, away from the bustle of the city. The campus is well-maintained, with spacious classrooms, playgrounds, and specialized facilities to cater to the diverse needs of the students. The school follows a holistic approach to education, focusing on both academics and life skills.
Objective of the extension activity

• To engage students in a meaningful community service.
• To boost the confidence of learning impaired students and to offer encouragement and positive reinforcement.

The team was heartily welcomed by Head of the institution Br. Jabamallai and the day of our visit was very auspicious as it was a farewell celebration for the Tenth standard students. The farewell function started with seeking the blessings of almighty god. Later many cultural programmes were performed by the juniors’ to their seniors who are departing from the school. Our students also performed dance and sung a motivating song which expressed how beautiful life is and the best way to achieve our desired goals.and wished the students a very good luck for their exams and to have bright future. During the programme the parents expressed their gratitude towards management and dedicated teaching in guiding their children and making them confident.
After the farewell programme delicious lunch was served to all. Later Br. Jabamallai explained the vision and mission of the school and their working strategies and innovative teaching methods to reach the special students.
Several games were organised for the children and they all enjoyed participating in all the events. Our students had the opportunity to interact with some of the children.
Despite their challenges, we were amazed by their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. It was heart-warming to see how the school environment nurtured their confidence and independence, empowering them to overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential. Our students were impressed by the use of innovative teaching methods, such as visual aids, interactive games, and hands-on activities, to make learning more accessible and engaging for the students.

The visit to the school was a profound experience that left lasting impact students. It highlighted the importance of inclusive education and the need for greater support and resources for children with learning impairments. It also reaffirmed my belief in the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of education.
In conclusion, the visit to the school for learning impaired was a humbling and enlightening experience. It reinforced the importance of empathy, compassion, and inclusivity in education. We were grateful for the opportunity to have witnessed firsthand the incredible work being done at the school and are inspired to advocate for greater awareness and support for children with learning impairments.
