BSW Department Introduces Official Uniform for Field Visits and Academic Activities
The Department of Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysore, has introduced an official departmental uniform for students to promote professionalism and strengthen their identity during academic and community engagements. The uniform will be compulsory for field visits, viva voce examinations, departmental activities, academic presentations, outreach programmes, and institutional collaborations.`

As a discipline rooted in service to society, Social Work demands not only theoretical knowledge but also professional conduct during field-based learning. Introducing a uniform is a significant step in ensuring that BSW students uphold a professional outlook, discipline, and decorum while interacting with communities, beneficiaries, institutional partners, and external stakeholders.
The key objectives of implementing the uniform include:
- Enhancing the professional identity of BSW students.
- Encouraging discipline and responsibility during field placements and community programmes.
- Ensuring a unified and dignified appearance during external and internal activities.
- Boosting confidence and preparedness among students during viva voce and professional interactions.
Faculty members from the department expressed that the initiative reflects the values and ethical standards of the Social Work profession. Students also welcomed the decision, acknowledging that the uniform fosters a stronger sense of belonging, boosts confidence in professional environments, and eliminates disparity during external visits and academic evaluations.
This initiative marks a progressive direction for the department as it continues to prepare students to become socially responsible, ethically committed, and professionally skilled social work practitioners. The Department of BSW will continue to promote excellence through academic learning, field engagement, and student-centered development.
