
Celebration of International Women’s Day

Objectives:
• To celebrate Women’s Day and recognize the contributions of women.
• To promote gender equality and inclusivity.
• To encourage faculty participation and talent expression.
• To create awareness on self-defense and well-being.
The Women’s Day celebration at St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysore was organized with great enthusiasm and active participation from faculty members. The program was conducted under the guidance of the Women’s Cell and RAAW, aiming to celebrate the spirit, strength, and talents of women while promoting inclusivity and engagement among all faculty members.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by the anchor, Ms. Jayalakshmi B, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Commerce, who set an energetic and engaging tone for the program. The celebration formally began with an invocation song rendered by Dr. Poornima Umesh, Assistant Professor Department of Hindi, creating a serene and auspicious atmosphere.
The Welcome Address was delivered by Ms. Disha D, who extended her greetings to all dignitaries and participants and highlighted the significance of celebrating Women’s Day as a means of recognizing contributions and fostering empowerment.
Following the welcome address, Ms. Juhie Singh P, Women’s Cell Convener, delivered a brief address on women empowerment, emphasizing the importance of equality, self-reliance, and the role of educational institutions in fostering confidence and leadership among women. Her speech was inspiring and well-received by the audience.

The program then continued with an engaging and energetic Karate Demonstration conducted by Rinshi Abdul Wasim, a National-level Black Belt (5th DAN), along with his Assistant Instructor Mr. Mohith Krishna. The demonstration showcased self-defense techniques, discipline, and physical fitness, and faculty members actively participated, making the session both interactive and impactful.
Following this, the much-anticipated Talent Fiesta was hosted by Ms. Amrin Taj, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Commerce, where faculty members enthusiastically showcased their talents through singing and dance performances. This segment highlighted the hidden talents of faculty and fostered a spirit of joy, creativity, and camaraderie.
The event continued with fun and critical thinking games conducted by Dr. Seema Siddiqui, Assistant Professor Department of MSc Food Science, which encouraged teamwork, quick thinking, and active participation from the faculty.
The program concluded with the announcement of winners. Ms. Amrutha Shankpal PRO and Placement Officer and Ms. Chandana emerged as winners and were awarded exciting cash prizes for their outstanding participation.
Overall, the Women’s Day celebration was a grand success, marked by vibrant participation, enthusiasm, and a strong sense of unity among faculty members. The event not only celebrated womanhood but also strengthened interpersonal bonds and provided a platform for showcasing diverse talents.
