Christmas Celebration with Transgenders
In Collaboration with the transgenders around Sub Urban city bus stand , Department of Social Work under the guidance of
Miss.Deepthy MJ ( HOD),Mrs Anjum Aliya and Mr.Mathew C.
Location : Park in Nazarbad , Near Suburban Bus Stand , Mysore .
Date : 21st December 2021 , Tuesday .

- 10 transgenders
- 32 Students from 1st ,2nd and 3rd year from BSW Department

REVIEW OF THE DAY
Social work trainees and the social work faculties reached the meeting position in a park ( in Nazarbad) by morning 10 am on 21st December 2021 .The transgenders came to the spot by 10:30 am.
The BSW students and the Faculty Supervisors interacted with them.After which everyone occupied a position in the park and sat down.
After a brief welcome given by Sherin ( 3rd Year BSW student) and Miss.Deepthy M J , one of the transgender recitated a prayer song.
After the prayer song , the transgenders introduced themselves individually. Mr. Mathew welcomed the transgenders to the programme and shared the happiness he felt in celebrating Christmas with them and gave a brief speech.
The BSW students of 1st and 3rd years performed a tableau related to Christmas.
The students of the 2nd year BSW performed a dance to entertain everyone.
Mrs. Anjum Aliya gave a detailed informative speech on the rights of transgenders.
Miss . Deepthy M J gave a brief speech on unity , equality and upliftment of transgenders by themselves and shared how happy she felt having a Christmas Celebration with them . A small contribution , which was collected from the BSW students , was given to the transgenders as a token of love by the Faculty Supervisors .
The BSW Students sang a Christmas carol to grace the Christmas Celebration
The Social Work Faculty Supervisors and the transgenders together cut the Christmas cake and distributed it to everyone present .
The Faculty Supervisors thanked the transgenders for joining and being part of sharing the joy of Christmas and congratulated the BSW students for the successful presentation of programmes. The programme ended with a dance where everyone participated.
After which the transgenders bid farewell to everyone and the programme was successfully accomplished.
Objectives of the Programme
- To work towards ending the isolation of transgender community from the mainstream Society
- To end stigma and discrimination against transgenders
- To make them feel that they belong with the society
- To give awareness about the rights they have as transgenders provided by law and Constitution of India
- To share the happiness of Christmas with the most socially distanced section of society.
- To set an example for the rest of the society to see them as human beings
Outcomes of the programme
- The transgenders gathered over there were able to learn the laws and rights available for them.
- Created a non – judgmental attitude towards the transgender community
- Set an example for others to follow to help the socially distanced section of the society to come up in life.
- The transgenders had the feeling of belongingness .
- The transgenders felt happy celebrating Christmas with the Department of Social Work as it was the first time they felt they were recognized.
