Objectives
- To commemorate the adoption of the Indian Constitution and its significance in shaping India’s democracy.
- To educate students and staff about the principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity enshrined in the Constitution.
- To inspire the college community to reflect on the Constitution’s relevance in their daily lives and reaffirm their commitment to its ideals.
The Equal Opportunity Cell of St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysuru, in collaboration with IQAC and IIC, observed Constitution Day on 26th November 2025 with the theme “The Responsibility of Safeguarding Democracy in the Future Lies in the Hands of Youth: Open Dialogue.” The programme was organized at the Indoor Stadium, St. Philomena’s College, and began at 10:30 a.m. with the participation of dignitaries, faculty members, and a large number of students.
Opening of the Ceremony:The function commenced with the melodious rendering of Nadageethe, setting a patriotic and reverent tone for the day. This was followed by a soulful Invocation presented by Dr. Shivaraju, Assistant Professor, Department of Kannada, seeking blessings for the successful conduct of the programme.

Lighting of the Lamp:As a symbol of knowledge, enlightenment, and constitutional values, the dignitaries and chief guests collectively performed the Lighting of the Lamp. This ceremonial act formally inaugurated the day’s proceedings and marked the spirit of unity and democratic responsibility.

Significance of the Indian Constitution:Prof. Anand, Academic Dean, addressed the gathering by elaborating on the Importance of the Indian Constitution, its historical significance, the vision of the framers, and the relevance of constitutional values in contemporary society. His insightful remarks set a meaningful foundation for the rest of the programme.

Welcome Address:The gathering was warmly welcomed by Dr. Nandeesha H. K., Coordinator, Equal Opportunity Cell, who extended heartfelt greetings to the dignitaries, faculty, and students. He highlighted the purpose of organizing Constitution Day and emphasized the role of the Equal Opportunity Cell in promoting equality, justice, and democratic participation among students.

Administration of the Constitution Oath:One of the key highlights of the event was the Preamble Oath Pledging, administered by Dr. Ravi J.D. Saldanha, Principal, St. Philomena’s College. All attendees stood in unison and solemnly recited the Preamble of the Indian Constitution, reaffirming their commitment to the constitutional ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity

Dr. Poornima, Head, Department of Hindi, formally introduced the distinguished chief guests to the audience. Her introduction encapsulated their notable contributions, achievements, and ongoing engagement in education, social service, and cultural spheres.
Chief Guests’ AddressesRenowned senior artist and a respected public intellectual, Dr. MukhyanmantriChandru captivated the audience with his deep reflections on democracy and the role of citizens.
He spoke passionately about the historical evolution of the Indian Constitution, acknowledging the monumental efforts of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Constituent Assembly. He highlighted how the Constitution stands as a beacon of justice and equality, guiding the nation through diversity and complexity.

Dr. Chandru emphasized the importance of safeguarding democratic institutions, reminding students that democracy functions effectively only when citizens remain vigilant, informed, and active.
He urged the youth to engage in critical thinking, constitutional awareness, and public discourse, stating that the future of the nation rests in their hands. His address was filled with real-life examples, inspiring students to embrace their responsibilities with sincerity and pride.
Felicitation Ceremony:The college honored and felicitated the chief guests as a token of appreciation for their valuable presence and contributions. The dignitaries were presented with mementos and floral gestures.

Student Competitions & Prize Distribution:As part of Constitution Day celebrations, the Equal Opportunity Cell organized various competitions to encourage students to deepen their understanding of constitutional principles:

1. Kannada Essay Competition
Theme: “Equality and the Constitution”A good number of students participated and showcased their knowledge on constitutional values and social justice.
2. English Essay Competition
Theme: “Equality and the Constitution”Participants reflected on constitutional ideals, fundamental rights, and the role of youth in nation-building.
- Debate CompetitionTopic: “The Responsibility of Safeguarding Democracy Lies in the Hands of Youth”

A total of 15 students actively took part in the debate, representing both UG and PG programmes.
The debate was coordinated by the EOC and judged by faculty members.
Overall Participation: A total of 54 students registered across all competitions, demonstrating enthusiastic engagement with constitutional values.The college honored and felicitated the chief guests as a token of appreciation for their valuable presence and contributions. The dignitaries were presented with mementos and floral gestures.
The winners were appreciated and presented with certificates and prizes during the formal Prize Distribution Ceremony, which added enthusiasm and recognition to the day’s activities.
Following the prize distribution, Dr. Nagendra Parashar, Chief Guest and renowned academician, delivered a special address emphasizing:constitutional morality,democratic responsibilities,youth empowerment,and the evolving role of citizens in upholding constitutional values.His message profoundly resonated with the audience.
The Presidential Address delivered by Rev. Dr. Lourdu Prasad Joseph, Rector/Manager of St. Philomena’s College, highlighted the continuing relevance of the Constitution in fostering equality and justice. He encouraged students to be conscious citizens and contribute actively to the nation’s democratic framework.
The programme concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Shivaraju, Assistant Professor, Department of Kannada, who expressed gratitude to the chief guests, management, faculty, organizing committee, student volunteers, and participants for making the event a resounding success.

The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem, instilling a sense of pride and patriotism among all present.
The Constitution Day Celebration 2025 at St. Philomena’s College proved to be an intellectually enriching and inspiring programme. It not only honored the legacy of the Indian Constitution but also strengthened constitutional awareness and responsibility among the youth. The active participation and enthusiasm of students made the event meaningful and impactful.
