The programme commenced at 9:00 AM with the registration of students, coordinated by Ms. Uzma Bathool, Mr. Mathew C, Ms. Manasa E, Mr.Ajay Anthony G.

Inauguration: 10. 00 am
The “Deeksharambh” Orientation Program at St. Philomena’s College Autonomous, Mysore, commenced on 30th June 2025 at 10.00 am, the Program for newly admitted Undergraduate students and their parents/guardians from 30th June 2025 to 2nd July 2025.

The event, organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), was conducted at the college’s indoor stadium with a solemn and inspiring inauguration ceremony. The event began with the rendition of the college anthem, “Philomena’s Anthem,” followed by a heartfelt prayer by Rev.Fr. Gnanapragasam, Administrator. The programme was inaugurated by the Rev.Dr. Lourdu Prasad Joseph, Rector, St. Philomena’s College, along with a few newly admitted students and their parents, through the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the light of Knowledge and the beginning of an enlightening academic journey, led by Ms. Harshitha M. from the Department of BCA.

Principal’s Talk” by Dr. Ravi J D Saldanha
Dr.Ravi J D Saldanha, the Principal delivered an inspiring address to the newly admitted students and their parents. The Principal began by congratulating the students on their successful admission to the college, highlighting their achievement in securing a place at such a reputed institution. He expressed his heartfelt wishes for their future endeavors and assured them that they had made a wise decision in choosing St. Philomena’s for their higher education. Emphasizing the significance of their academic choices, the Principal commended the students for selecting their combinations judiciously, which would serve as a strong foundation for their future careers. He reassured them that the college’s diverse programs and experienced faculty would provide the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in their chosen fields, an overview of the campus facilities, including laboratories, a well-stocked library, and various extracurricular.

The Rev.Dr.Lourdu Prasad Joseph, Rector, delivered an inspiring and motivational address to the newly admitted students and their parents. He urged parents to join hands with the college and its teachers in guiding and nurturing their children. By working together, he said, they could effectively handle the responsibilities of shaping the students’ academic and personal growth. With the support of their parents and teachers, he assured the students that they would have a bright and successful future ahead.11. 00 am, Ms. Arshiya Khanum from the Department of BBA introduced the keynote speaker for the day, Rev. Fr. Richard Menezes, Director of Dhyana Sadhana, Mysore. His motivational session titled “Ignite your journey” focused on self-awareness, purpose-driven life, and inner strength, leaving a lasting impression on the students.

ev.Fr.Richard Menezes Director, Dhyana Sadhana Mysore, had a motivational session with students of first year. During the interaction with the students, he developed the title. His entire session was full of enthusiasm. Rev.Fr.Richard Menezes tried to encourage students to overcome the stage phobia and many students spoke for the first time in front of the audience
Time- 12. 05 Pm, ERP – Attendance Monitoring System By,
Mr. Roshan D’ Souza
Planning (ERP) Attendance monitoring system for newly joined degree students. Enhance systems integrate various business processes and functions into a single comprehensive system, detailing its features, benefits, and impact. Communication, and improve overall efficiency. One critical function of such a system is attendance monitoring, which plays a crucial role in maintaining academic discipline and ensuring student success.
Time- 12. 10 Pm UUCMS Orientation – Conducted by Ms. Lydia Anjali A., UUCMS Coordinator.
The nodal officer of UUCMS, delivered a speech emphasizing the significance and necessity of UUCMS, explaining the login process and the initial password provided by the institution, which can be modified later. He highlighted that the uploaded mark list can be accessed globally, stressing the importance of ensuring accurate data entry. Additional registration
instructions for UUCMS will be communicated accordingly.

Time- 10. 00 am Academics and Curriculum Overview – Presented
by Mr. M. Nagaraj Urs, Vice Principal (Academic).
The session focused on the SEP syllabus presented by Professor Nagaraj URS, from the Department of Physics, who is also the Vice Principal of the Academic Section. He discussed the allotment of the Karnataka State Education Policy, which will replace the National Education Policy starting from 2024-2025. 2. Professor Nagaraj URS mentioned that students need to choose three discipline-specific core papers, except for those pursuing BBA, BCA, and B’Com. In terms of languages, students must select two, with English being compulsory and the other being optional. 3. The government mandates that all students must take Indian Constitution and Environmental Studies as compulsory papers. A minimum attendance of 85% is necessary to receive the hall ticket. 4. The assessment will consist of four components, with C1 scheduled after 8 weeks, C2 after 15 weeks, and the final examination in the 16th week. The minimum pass mark is 28, but students must achieve at least 40 out of 100 marks.

Mr. Ronald Prakash Cutinha, Vice Principal (Administration) also highlighted the importance of utilizing the library and resources effectively, such as the reference section and online databases. He encouraged students to make use of the library not just for academic purposes, but also for personal growth and development. In addition to the wealth of books available, Mr. Ronald mentioned that the library also offers workshops, book clubs, and other activities to foster a love for reading and learning among students. He emphasized the role of the library in shaping well-rounded individuals who are not just academically successful, but also socially aware and culturally enriched.

Time- 10. 45 am Examination and Evaluation System – Elaborated by Dr. Reena Francis, Controller of Examinations.
The session was a talk about the examination section by Dr. Reena Francis , head and dean of Commerce, Controller of examination , who gave us an insights about the examination pattern and the responsibility every student should have The examination pattern for C1 and C2 will be internal assessment, carried out at the department level, each carrying 10 marks. For the first batch of students the internal assessment will be of 20 marks, and the end-semester examination will be for 80 marks. Various activities like test assignments, quizzes, group discussions, and more will be decided by the teacher, with deadlines for submission or presentation in order to earn more marks. Additionally, the highest scorers of every class will receive ranks. The controller of examination also mentioned that there is a provision for repeating the C3 assessment, as C1 & C2 cannot be repeated. There will be no score for the story, as the marks will be submitted to the examination section. Updates about the revaluation rules will be provided later. The speech concluded by dividing all the set time along with the location of the examination section. This comprehensive examination pattern aims to provide a fair and thorough assessment of students and knowledge and skills in the respective subjects.

Time- 11. 25 am The session was Cultural Events by Dr. Deepa V, department of Management Coordinator, and IQAC.
Dr. Deepa V, department of Management Coordinator, and IQAC, delivered a speech to the students celebrating our institution’s cultural events. She highlighted how these events enrich our academic environment, showcase talents, and foster personal growth. It emphasized that participation enhances skills such as teamwork and confidence and promotes diversity and inclusion. Students were encouraged to continue supporting and participating in cultural activities, which help build a vibrant and inclusive community.
Time- 11. 35 am The session was Career Guidance & Placements by Mr. Ronald Prakash Cutinha, Librarian and Vice Principal (Academic)
A career guidance and placement session was held for students of St.Philomena’s college, attended by over 600 students. Mr. Ronald Prakash Cutinha, Highlights Career Planning – Self-assessment, setting goals, exploring career options. Job Market Trends- Emerging industries, impact of technology, key skills sought by employers. Resume Building and Interview Preparation Resume structure and content, interview types, and techniques. Job Search Strategies -Networking, online job portals, campus placements. Resources and Support – Career counseling, skill development workshops, information on recruitment drives, Inform about placement cell resources and support The session was successful, providing students with valuable career planning and placement tools.
Time- 11. 40 am The session was Competitive Examinations
by Dr. Poornima
Dr. Poornima Highlights Study Techniques to the students to be Active learning, spaced repetition, mind mapping, Time Management, Creating study schedules, setting realistic goals, Exam Stress free, to maintain Stress management, mindfulness practices. The session successfully equipped students with essential strategies for competitive exams.
Time- 11. 55 am NSS Orientation – By Mr. Johnson Arulraj L, Dept. of English. NCC Introduction – By Sub Lt. Eliezer Vishwas (Naval Wing), Department of Physics and Mr. Francis Devasahayam B. (Artillery Battery), from the Departments of Physics and Forensic Science respectively.
An awareness session on National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) -Briefly Introduce NSS and NCC programs and explain its benefits and opportunities also Encourage student participation. Time- 12. 10 am The session was Rangers & Rovers by Mr. Mathew C.
Mr. Mathew C briefly discussed the importance and applications of Rangers and Rovers in various fields such as exploration. He Presented the Ranger and Rover units to the students and explained the key components and functionalities of each unit. Students were actively engaging and showing a keen interest in the operation of the Rangers and Rovers. Participants gained practical insights and felt more confident in handling the equipment.
Time- 12. 15 am The session was Sports & KPI by
Ms. Periyanayagammal.
Ms. Periyanayagammal Provided a brief overview of the college’s sports programs and the role of physical education in their overall development. She explained the variety of sports available, including team sports like football, basketball, volleyball, as well as individual sports like tennis and athletics also highlighted the importance of participating in sports for physical health, teamwork, and personal growth.
The National Anthem was played at 12:30 PM, concluding the day’s formal programme.

Keynote Address: Time- 10. 00 am
Dr. Sowmya P., Dept. of Sociology, introduced the day’s motivational speaker.
The keynote address titled “Fuel your potential” was delivered by Prof. D. Parashivamurthy, GFGC, Hullahalli. He inspired students to identify their inner strengths and cultivate discipline, focus, and resilience.
In his inspiring session titled “Fuel Your Potential”, the resource person emphasized the power of a genuine smile as the simplest yet most impactful tool to overcome stress and build positive human connections. He explained that a smile is not just a facial expression but a reflection of inner peace and confidence. Encouraging students to adopt a stress-free mindset, he highlighted that stress can be classified into positive (eustress) and negative (distress) forms. While eustress can motivate individuals to achieve goals and stay productive, distress can hinder emotional and physical well-being. He urged students to recognize the difference and channel their energies into meaningful academic and personal pursuits. The speaker stressed that staying calm, being self-aware, and practicing mindfulness—along with keeping a smiling attitude—can drastically reduce anxiety and improve concentration, thus helping students unlock their true potential.
