Objectives of the Programme
· To commemorate World Red Cross Day 2026 in a meaningful and socially relevant manner.
· To create awareness among students regarding humanitarian values, compassion, equality, and social responsibility.
· To encourage students to articulate their thoughts and perspectives through creative and analytical writing.
· To foster the spirit of unity, peace, cooperation, and service towards humanity.
· To enhance communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and creative expression among students.
Report of the Programme
In observance of World Red Cross Day 2026, St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysore, organized an Essay Writing Competition on the theme “United in Humanity” for the postgraduate students of the institution. The programme was conducted under the auspices of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) with the objective of promoting humanitarian ideals, compassion, social responsibility, and the spirit of unity among students.
The competition was held on 08 May 2026 from 2.00 PM to 3.00 PM in Room Nos. 37 and 38 located on the PG First Floor. Faculty members actively encouraged students to participate in the programme, which resulted in enthusiastic participation from a total of 78 postgraduate students.
Participants were permitted to write their essays in either Kannada or English, thereby enabling wider participation and allowing students to express their ideas effectively and confidently in their preferred language. The essays submitted by the students reflected thoughtful insights on humanity, peace, equality, cooperation, compassion, and service to society.
The event provided an excellent platform for students to demonstrate their creativity, analytical thinking, communication skills, and writing proficiency. The competition also encouraged students to reflect on contemporary humanitarian issues and the importance of collective responsibility towards society.
The programme was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Nandeesha H. K., PG Department of Economics, and Mr. Francis Devasahayam, Department of Criminology & Forensic Science. The smooth and disciplined conduct of the competition was ensured by the invigilators, namely Ms. Megha Pradeep and Mr. Vinay Kumar H., Assistant Professors, Department of Criminology & Forensic Science, along with Miss Namitha Jois, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Economics.
In order to appreciate and encourage student participation, cash prizes were announced for the top three essays in both Kannada and English categories.




Outcomes of the Programme
· Students developed greater awareness regarding humanity, compassion, and social harmony.
· The competition enhanced students’ essay writing, communication, and critical thinking abilities.
· Participants actively engaged with socially relevant humanitarian issues.
· The programme encouraged bilingual participation through Kannada and English medium writing.
· Students were motivated to participate in socially responsible and value-based activities.
