
FIELD VISIT TO VIDHANA SOUDHA
The PG Department of Economics organized an educational visit to VidhanaSoudha, Bengaluruon the vocation of Budget Discussion on 13 March 2025.
The educational visit conducted for the students of 1st and 2nd year MA Economics. The objective of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to the functioning of government institutions and the legislative process.

OBJECTIVE OF THE EDUCATIONAL VISIT

The PG Department of Economics organized an educational visit to VidhanaSoudha, Bengaluruon the vocation of Budget Discussion on 13 March 2026.The educational visit conducted for the students of 1st and 2nd year MA Economics. The objective of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to the functioning of government institutions and the legislative process.
A total of 16 students accompanied by two faculty members, Dr. Nandeesha H.K., Head of the PG Department of Economics, and Ms. NamithaJois K.S., Assistant Professor, participated in the visit. The group departed from Mysuru by train at 6:45 AM and reached Bengaluru at 9:40 AM. From the railway station, the group travelled through the metro and reached VidhanaSoudha.
During the visit, the students had the opportunity to meet Mr. Tanveer Sait, MLA of Narasimharaja Constituency, Mysuru. The students attended a budget discussion session in the legislative assembly, which helped them understand the policy-making and decision-making process of the government.

The group also visited Vikas Soudha, where several administrative departments function. The students had lunch in the Vikas Soudha canteen. After lunch, they explored the VidhanaSoudha campus and observed the administrative environment and activities taking place within the government complex.
After completing the visit, the group travelled back by metro to the railway station. They left Bengaluru at 3:15 PM and reached Mysuru at 5:40 PM.
The visit was highly informative and provided students with a valuable opportunity to observe and experience how government bodies function in practice. It helped the students connect their academic knowledge of economics and public policy with real-world governance and administrative processes.
OUTCOME OF THE EDUCATIONAL VISIT
The educational visit to VidhanaSoudha provided students with practical exposure to the functioning of the legislative assembly, particularly the budget discussion process. It enhanced their understanding of public finance, government decision-making, and the procedures involved in policy formulation. Students were able to connect theoretical concepts from economics and political science with real-life practices, thereby improving their analytical and critical thinking skills.
Furthermore, the visit increased students’ awareness of democratic governance and the role of elected representatives in addressing public issues. It encouraged a sense of civic responsibility and active interest in public affairs. Overall, the experience contributed to a deeper appreciation of the functioning of government institutions and the importance of informed citizenship.
CONCLUSION
The visit to VidhanaSoudha was a meaningful and enriching learning experience for the students of the PG Department of Economics. It enhanced their understanding of legislative procedures, governance, and administrative functioning.
