
“Green Tech Warriors : Value
Introduction
The UHV Cell, in association with the Department of MBA IQAC and IIC of St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysuru, organized an insightful and interactive session on “GreenTech Warriors: Value-Driven Sustainability“. The session aimed to raise students’ awareness of sustainability, ethical decision-making, ecological responsibility, and the importance of human values in building a sustainable future.
The program was conducted successfully with enthusiastic student participation and active interaction throughout the session. The event highlighted how sustainability is not just about protecting nature but also about adopting responsible values, mindful lifestyles, and ethical choices.
The session served as an eye-opening platform for students to understand the importance of balancing technological development with environmental responsibility and ethical human values. It encouraged students to become conscious individual’s capable of contributing to a sustainable society.
Mr. Surendran Aalone is the Principal Architect at Mango Tree Collaborative in Bengaluru, where he specializes in value-driven sustainable architecture, including climate-responsive design, building physics, and the use of natural materials such as bamboo, stone, and mud. He has previously worked with leading firms such as Manasaram Architects, L&S Architects, and Indigo Architects, and holds an M.Sc. in Advanced Sustainable Design from the University of Edinburgh.

Inaugural Session
The program commenced with the formalinaugural session on the dais. The dignitaries addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of sustainable living, ethical responsibility, and environmentally conscious decisions in today’s world. The inauguration reflected the institution’s commitment to promoting value-based education and sustainability awareness among students

Session Highlights
The resource person explained the concept of sustainability and its evolution over the years. Important ideas discussed during the session included:
- Understanding sustainability and its origins.
- The Brundt land Report definition of sustainable development.
- Difference between needs and unnecessary consumption.
- Ecological foot print and bio-capacity.
- Earth share and Earth Overshoot Day.
- Ethicaldecision-makingandvalue-drivensustainability.
- Human values such as responsibility, empathy, integrity, equality, cooperation, and respect for nature.
The speaker emphasized that sustainability becomes meaningful only when development is guided by human values.
The session encouraged students to rethink daily lifestyle choices such as excessive consumption, unnecessary purchases, and misuse of resources.

Interactive Session
One of the most engaging parts of the program was the interactive session between the resource person and students. Students actively participated by asking thoughtful questions and sharing their perspectives on sustainability, ethical work culture, and responsible living.
