GUEST LECTURE
The Department of Economics organized a Guest Lecture on Introduction to Econometrics on 30th June 2022 at 10.30 am (2 hours). Dr.Prema Kumara G S was the speaker.
OBJECTIVES:
- To introduce the “subject econometrics”
- To familiarize the concepts of Econometrics.
- To analyze the importance of Econometrics in model building in the present economics scenario.
Dr. Prema Kumara G S explained the methodology of Econometrics in model building with application oriented example which was very innovative and interesting. He explained in detail the steps involved in model building. In each step he gave interesting, creative and thought provoking examples. He explained the different branches of Econometrics like Financial Econometrics, Applied Econometrics and so on. He illustrated each branch of Econometrics with a number of examples which helped the students in rapt attention. A student who studies Econometrics at the graduate level would be better placed when they go for higher studies in Econometrics. Knowledge of Econometrics sharpens the analytical skills.
Dr. Prema Kumara opined that the student of Economics, who is well worst in Econometrics, has an opportunity to work in many fields. Data analysis is a very lucrative profession, for which a student requires a good knowledge of Econometrics. Present day companies, Multinational Companies officers require the skills of collection of data analyzing data and coming up with policy decisions regarding the day to day problems faced by these organizations. He opined that student of Econometrics will be at an advantage if they choose administrative profession; they would be better managers and administrators.
Dr. Prema Kumara G S concluded his talk by enumerating the advantage of the study of Econometrics. Last 10 minutes was spent in question and answer session were out student enthusiastically asked a number of questions and our Guest speaker answered all of them.
The department is happy to know that the Guest Lecture was received with great enthusiasm and motivated junior student to take up Econometrics in there further studies.
