Independence Day Celebration
St.Philomena’s College (Autonomous) Mysore, celebrated the 74 independence day on 15 August 2020 with enthusiasm and patriotic fervor. Rev.Dr. Bernard Prakash Barnis,Rector/Manager, St.Philomena’s Institutions, Rev.Fr.Maria Xavier, Vice Rector, Rev. Fr. John Paul, Campus Administrator, Dr.Sr.Helen, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Dr.Seetha R, the chief guest, Dr. Ruth Shantha Kumari, Principal, St.Philomena’s Degree College, Mr. Sunil D’souza, Principal St.Philomena’s Pre-University College, Mr.Sanjay Nair, Vice Principal, Mr.Britto Dominic Rayan, Controller of examination, Dr.Alphonsus D’souza, former controller and Dean of Sciences, Mr. Prakash Cutinha, IQAC co-coordinator were dignitaries of the Independence Day celebration.
The festivity commenced with a brief introduction of the occasion by Ms. Panchama S.N from the department of Political Science who was the host of celebration. It was followed by invocation of God’s blessings by Mr. Gnanapriyadas and his team of Pre-University College. Mrs. Deepa from the Department of Management welcomed the gathering. Mrs. Jeevitha of the Department of Botany introduced the chief guest. Cadet Andrew invited Dr.Seetha and the Rector to hoist the national flag, which was accompanied by the singing of the National Anthem.
Dr.Seetha in her address to the gathering highlighted the struggles and sacrifices of the people of India for over two centuries to attain freedom from the British rule. She lauded the efforts of independent India in the field of science and technology, medicine, education, industries at the global level. Dr. Seetha appreciated the initiative and efforts of our Prime Minister towards Atma Nirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India) and make in india initiatives. She advised to use our freedom for a better tomorrow. Dr.Seetha concluded with a poem, written by Rabindranath Tagore, “Where the mind is without fear”.
On this occasion Dr. Helen from St.Joseph’s Hospital was felicitated for her selfless service as a covid warrior.
Teacher’s Choir led by Dr. Poornima sang a medley of Patriotic songs.
Dr. Ruth Shantha Kumari, Principal of the college, in her speech brought forth some nostalgic memories of Independence Day celebrations. She emphasized on instilling patriotic sentiments and national pride among the citizens to build a better India.
Mr. Sheldon from the Post Graduate Department of English proposed a vote of thanks.
