St. Philomena’s college celebrated International Yoga Day on June 21, 2025, with greatenthusiasmandspiritualenergy,incollaborationwithSt.Joseph’sCollegeofNursing. The event aimed to spread awareness about the importance of yoga in daily life and promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Theprogrambeganat 11:00A.MwithaninauguralspeechbyDr.LourduPrasadJoseph,RectorandManager,followedbyawarmwelcomeextended todignitariesMrsMamatha,PrincipalofSt.Joseph’sCollegeofNursingandChief guest, Ms. Jahnavi V. Madhu (Assistant Professor, Dept of Yoga, JSSAHER), Mysuru. Dr. Seema welcomed the gathering and spoke about the importance of International Day of Yoga. The event was organized to bring awareness about yoga and importance of meditation among the young college students to have a stress-free lifestyle.

Rev. Fr. Gnana Pragasam, Administrator, Rev. Fr. David Sagayaraj S.,Dr.Ravi J D Saldana., Principal, Dr. Noor Mubasheer C.A., PG Coordinator, Dr. Seema Siddiqi, (HOD-PG FSN) Dr. Kaneez Haleema (AP-PG FSN), Mrs. Suhan Poovaiah (HOD-English), Ms. Reena Joyce J and Ms.NidhiGummadifaculty from DepartmentofEnglish were present.
The yoga session was led by certified instructor – Dr. Akshata N, Dr. Amir Abbas, Dr. Sanaz, Dr. Ammara, Mr. Lokesh, Mrs. Teenu from Department of Yoga, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (Deemed to be University), who guided participants through a series of asanas, pranayama (breathing techniques), followed by a short meditation session. More than 300 students, faculty members, and technical staff actively participated from both colleges and dressed in traditional yoga attire, creating a vibrant and peaceful atmosphere.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Reena Joyce J, Assistant Professor, PG DepartmentofEnglishacknowledgingtheseamlesscooperationbetweenthetwoinstitutesand the collective effort of organizers, volunteers and participants. The event was not only a celebrationofIndia’sancientheritagebutalsoareminderoftheneedtointegrateyogaintoour daily lives for a healthier and balanced lifestyle.

As part of the International Yoga Day celebration, PG Dept. of Food Science and Nutrition, St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Bannimantap, Affiliated to University of Mysore had organizedaSpecialLectureonJune20th2025,aimedatdeepeningtheunderstandingofyoga’s timeless relevance in today’s fast-paced world.

The program was inaugurated in the presence of Rev. Fr. Gnana Pragasam, Administrator, Rev. Fr. David Sagayaraj S., Assistant to Rector, Dr.Ravi J D Saldana., Principal, Dr. Noor Mubasheer C.A., PG Coordinator, Mr. Thomas GunasheelanIQAC Coordinator,Dr. Seema Siddiqi, HODandAssistantProfessorofPG DepartmentFoodScienceandNutrition,Dr.KaneezHaleema Assistant Professor of Food Science and Nutrition.
The event commenced at 11.00 am, with an opening address given by Ms. Reena Joseph, PG FSN Student, whowelcomedtheguestspeakerandallattendees.The guest speaker was Dr. Akshata N. RD.

Inherlecturetitled“NOURISHTOFLOURISH:OPTIMIZINGPHYSICALFITNESS
THROUGH DIET”, the speaker elaborated on the nutrition with philosophy of yoga, its scientific benefits, and its role in managing stress, enhancing focus, and promoting holistic well-being. She also emphasized the significance of integrating yoga into academic and professional life to maintain mental clarity and physical vitality.
Thehighlightoftheeventwastheinsightful lecture on the yoga and its benefits in the day today life to cope up with the mental, physical and emotional stress.
The lecture was followed by an engaging Q&A session where students and faculty interacted enthusiastically with the speaker, seeking guidance on how to adopt yoga practices in their daily routine.
ThesessionconcludedwithaformalvoteofthanksbyMs.Afifa,PGFSNstudentwho appreciated the valuable insights shared and the enthusiastic participation from all department.
