Kannada Rajyotsava
St. Philomena’s Degree College, Mysuru organized Kannada Rajyotsava program on November 30, 2018 in the Indoor stadium at 2.30 pm.The celebrations highlighted the importance of Kannada as a language and the various forms of art and cultures of the state. Prof. M Krishne Gowda, the former Principal of St. Philomena’s Degree College, a scholar in the field of Kannada was the chief guest. In his speech he mainly highlighted about the vocabulary richness of folk and other variants of Kannada language. He made the speech humorous, though filled with scope for kannada speakers to introspect about their commitment for their mother tongue.similar to English, kannada also can become richer and more popular if we adapt words from other languages and internalize into it, he opined.
Mr. Krishne Gowda reiterated that speaking and respecting does not necessitate hating or insulting the English language. English gives us the necessary exposure to the world but our mother tongue helps to appreciate and feel it better, he said. He also mentioned about the heritage of Kannada, one of the oldest languages.
The gathering was welcomed by Miss. Yashaswi. The program was continued with cultural activities by the students by portraying the different attires of the districts across the state which was followed by a Kannada rap song and also folk dance.
