Report on National Human Rights Day Celebration – 2025.
- Organized by the Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC)in Association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)& IIC.

Objectives:
1. To promote awareness about human rights and their importance in ensuring dignity, equality, and justice for all individuals.
2. To educate students and faculty on global human rights principles and the responsibilities of citizens in safeguarding them.
3. To inspire the youth to uphold humanitarian values, constitutional rights, and social responsibility in everyday life.

The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC), in association with IQAC and IIC, organized the National Human Rights Day Celebration on 10 December 2025 at St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysuru. The celebration commemorated the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948, a historic milestone affirming the fundamental rights and freedoms of every human being. The theme of the programme revolved around promoting equality, justice, and dignity, with special emphasis on the role of youth in safeguarding human rights.
The programme commenced at 10:30 a.m., with Batul serving as the Master of the Ceremony. The event began with the Philos Anthem, creating a respectful and dignified atmosphere for the occasion.
Inauguration by Administering the Human Rights Pledge: The formal inauguration was conducted through the Human Rights Pledgeby the Principal, Dr. Ravi J. D. Saldanha. The pledge symbolized the institution’s commitment to upholding human dignity and equality. All participants collectively took the pledge, reaffirming their responsibility to respect and protect the rights of others.

Welcome Address: The Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. Shyla B., Associate Professor, PG Department of Chemistry. She warmly welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, students, and guests, highlighting the relevance of Human Rights Day in fostering an inclusive and just society. She emphasized the need for continuous awareness and proactive engagement in promoting human rights.

Message by the Rector: The Message was delivered by Rev. Fr. Lourdu Prasad Joseph, Rector, St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysuru. In his address, he highlighted the global significance of human rights and the moral responsibility of educational institutions in nurturing awareness and ethical values. His message inspired students to practice empathy, equality, and civic responsibility in all aspects of life.
Guest Introduction and Speech – I: The first guest was introduced by Divya, who presented Shri Muhammed Hasmath Khan, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) and Assistant Director, Karnataka Police Academy, Mysuru.
In his insightful address, Shri Hasmath Khan spoke about the role of law enforcement agencies in protecting human rights and maintaining social harmony. He elaborated on the challenges faced in safeguarding human rights and stressed the importance of public cooperation. His speech encouraged students to become informed, vigilant, and responsible citizens.

Guest Introduction and Speech – II
The second guest was introduced by Bavitha, who introduced Dr. Prashanth T. M., Assistant Professor, Vidyavardhaka Law College, Mysuru.
Dr. Prashanth delivered an informative lecture on the legal framework of human rights in India, highlighting constitutional provisions, international conventions, and contemporary human rights issues. He emphasized the role of citizens in upholding justice, equality, and freedom, thereby enriching students’ understanding from a legal and civic perspective.

Vote of Thanks: The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Deepa, IQAC Co-coordinator, Assistant Professor, Department of BBA, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries, guests, faculty members, student volunteers, and organizers for their cooperation in making the programme a success. She acknowledged the contributions of both guest speakers for enriching the audience with powerful insights into human rights issues.
National Anthem: The programme concluded with the National Anthem, instilling a sense of unity, respect, and patriotism among all present.

The National Human Rights Day Celebration – 2025 at St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysuru, proved to be a meaningful and intellectually stimulating event. It not only commemorated the global legacy of human rights but also strengthened students’ understanding of equality, justice, and human dignity. The participation of faculty and students, coupled with insightful sessions by distinguished speakers, made the event impactful and educational. The programme successfully reinforced the significance of protecting and promoting human rights as a collective responsibility.
