Report on “A Capacity Building Programme on DrillBit- Plagiarism Checker and Professional Ethics”
Objectives
The primary objectives of the Capacity Building Programme on “DrillBit- Plagiarism Checker and Professional Ethics” were:
- To educate faculty and students about the importance of academic integrity and how to uphold it.
- To demonstrate the use and features of the DrillBit Plagiarism Checker tool.
- To discuss the principles of professional ethics in an academic setting.
- To foster a culture of ethical behaviour and integrity in academic institutions.
Event Details
The programme was held on the 29th of May, 2024, at the MBA Conference Hall from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. It was attended by 61 faculty members and 32 students, totalling 93 participants. The event was honoured by the presence of Dr Ravi J D Saldanha, Principal, Mr Nagaraj Urs M Vice Principal (Academics), Mr Ronald Prakash Cutinha Vice Principal (Administration), Mr A Thomas Gunaseelan IQAC Coordinator, Ms Lydiya Vandana Controller of Examinations, Dr AlUUCMS Coordinator, and the Master of Ceremony (MC) was Dr. Deepa V.
Welcome Address
The event began with the Philos anthem, setting a reflective and respectful atmosphere. Dr. Issac George, Associate Professor in the Department of MBA, delivered the welcome address. He emphasized the significance of maintaining academic honesty and the role of tools like DrillBit in achieving this goal.
Inauguration
The formal inauguration was symbolized by watering a sapling, an act performed by all the distinguished guests including the Principal, Vice Principal, and others. This gesture represented the nurturing of ethical practices within the academic community.
Session 1: DrillBit – Plagiarism Checker
The first session was conducted by Sri Raghavendra R., who presented an in-depth overview of the DrillBit Plagiarism Checker. He covered the tool’s functionality, features, and benefits. The session included a live demonstration and a Q&A segment, where participants actively engaged and clarified their doubts. This session aimed to equip the attendees with practical skills to use the software effectively for maintaining academic integrity.
Session 2: Professional Ethics
The second session featured Prof. Khaiser Jahan Begum, Former Professor of DOS Library & Information Science, University of Mysore. Prof. Begum delivered an enlightening lecture on professional ethics, discussing its importance in both academic and professional spheres. She shared real-life examples and provided guidelines for ethical decision-making. Her talk was designed to instil a strong ethical foundation among the participants.
Vote of Thanks
Dr. Sadiya Tabassum concluded the programme with a vote of thanks. She expressed her gratitude to the speakers, guests, and participants for their enthusiastic involvement and contributions. Dr. Tabassum also acknowledged the efforts of the organizing committee for their hard work in ensuring the event’s success.
Conclusion
