TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn” says Benjamin Franklin.
As months rolled and time flew; here comes another teachers day, an opportunity to remember the selfless service of our teachers.
Rev. Dr. Fr Bernard Prakash Barnis, Rector/Manager, Rev. Fr. Maria Xavier, Vice Rector, Rev. Fr. John Paul, Campus Administrator, Rev. Fr. Manuel D’Souza, Director, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Nursing, Dr. Nanda Kishor MS, the chief guest, Dr. Ruth Shantha Kumari Principal, Degree College, Mr. Sunil D’Souza, Principal, Pre-University College, Prof. Othbert Pinto, Director, Postgraduate Center, Mr. Sanjay Nair, Vice Principal, Mr. Britto Dominic Rayan, Controller of Examination, Dr. Alphonsus D’Souza, Former Controller and Dean of Sciences, Mr. Ronald Prakash Cutinha, IQAC coordinator St. Philomena’s Educational Institutions, were dignitaries of the Teachers Day Celebration.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” The celebration began by an invocation by the office staff of the college.
The Programme was elegantly anchored by Ms. Panchama N S from the Department of Political Science.
Mrs. Bindu Noronha, from the Department of Chemistry welcomed the gathering on the auspicious occasion. Mrs. Lydia Vandhana from the Postgraduate Department of Bio Chemistry spoke on the importance of the day. Mr. Sandesh D’Souza, from the Department of Commerce, introduced the chief guest.
Dr. Nanda Kishor M S, in his pre-recorded speech highlighted the struggles, sacrifices and challenges of teachers of the fast changing world in the present century. He further stated in his speech the importance of giving, sacrificing and forgiving. He added that a teacher succeeds when he/she imparts knowledge that brings wisdom and the wisdom imbibed brings in understanding. He concluded by highlighting the main element of compassion that each teacher has to apply in his/her life which brings about change in the life of every student.
Dr. Noor Mubashir was honored for her tireless and selfless contribution to the institution as the ‘First PhD Guide in the Department of Social Work’. Dr. Viveka Marie from the Postgraduate Department of Commerce and Dr. Padma Priya from the Postgraduate Department of Mathematics were felicitated on the completion of their doctoral degree.
The message written by His Lordship, Bishop of Mysore, Most. Rev. Dr. K. A. William was gracefully read by the Rector, Rev. Dr. Fr Bernard Prakash Barnis on the occasion which was followed by a cultural programme (video clipping by the Pre-University college, song by the Undergraduate Department and a combined effort of all the teachers of the institution) which involved the tremendous efforts of the teachers of St. Philomena’s Educational intuitions. Dr. Ruth Shantha Kumari Principal, St. Philomena’s Degree College, in her speech brought forth a few nostalgic moments of being a teacher. She emphasized that teaching should be a mission and further highlighted the role and responsibility of a teacher with a positive attitude full of optimism.
Dr. Nandeesh from the Postgraduate Department of Economics proposed the vote of thanks. September 5th, 2020 will remain forever engraved in our hearts with an attitude of love, gratitude and thankfulness to God for keeping us safe and sound by bestowing upon us blessings from above.
