Visit to Flood affected Areas
On 07th September 2019 a few students and staff of St.Philomena’s College(Autonomous), Mysuru along with Rev.Dr. Bernard Prakash Barnis, the Rector; Rev. Fr. Maria Xaveir, the Vice Rector and Rev. Fr. Thomas Roxon Baros, the Campus Administrator visited the worst flood-hit areas of Virajpet in Coorg district as a part of extension activity. This visit was specially arranged in order to reach out to the victims of flood which was experienced by them during August-September that resulted in the loss of lives, properties ,pets, valuables etc.
It was observed during the visit that the people were camped in temporary shelters and were eagerly waiting to be helped to rebuild their livelihood in a few concentrated areas of Virajpet Taluk.
Also as an outreach program the administration of the college had decided to visit Virajpet and the neighbouring camps and to help them in the possible ways. The staff and students of the college earlier had donated many a useable things which would be used by the affected people. As the response was very good, a good amount of materials and food items were collected. The team first reached St. Ann’s Church, Virajpet and there with the guidance of Fr. Madalai Muthu, the Parish Priest of St. Ann’s Church; Fr. Roshan, Asst. Parish Priest and Fr. Rony Ravi Kumar, the Principal St. Ann’s College, the team moved to the camp site of affected people. The items brought were distributed to the needy and recepients expressed gratitude for the timely help.
