YOUTH RED CROSS
Overview
The Youth Red Cross (YRC) unit at St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysore, operates under the aegis of the Indian Red Cross Society. It is a voluntary humanitarian organization that encourages students aged 18 to 25 to engage in activities that promote health, service, and friendship. The YRC aims to instill a sense of social responsibility and humanitarian values among the youth, preparing them to respond to emergencies and contribute positively to society.
Objectives

- Promote Health and Hygiene: Educate students and the community about health, hygiene, and disease prevention.

- Encourage Voluntary Service: Foster a spirit of selfless service through participation in community welfare activities.

- Develop Leadership Skills: Provide opportunities for students to develop leadership qualities and organizational skills.

Activities
The YRC unit at St. Philomena’s College has been actively involved in various initiatives, including:
Blood Donation Camps: Organizing regular blood donation drives in collaboration with local blood banks to support patients in need.
Health Check-up Camps: Conducting general health and specialized eye check-up camps for students and the local community.
Sanitary Pad Vending Machine Launch: Promoting menstrual hygiene by installing sanitary pad vending machines on campus.
Awareness Programs: Hosting events like mime shows and seminars to raise awareness on issues such as women’s rights and harassment.
World Youth Red Cross Day Celebrations: Commemorating the day with activities that highlight the principles and mission of the Red Cross.
Membership
Membership is open to all students of St. Philomena’s College who are interested in humanitarian service. Members are expected to actively participate in YRC activities and uphold the principles of the Red Cross.
