AWARENESS PROGRAM ON LEARNING RESOURCES: EBSCO & J-GATE DATABASES.
An awareness program on learning resources about EBSCO and J-Gate databases was jointly organized by the Central Library and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of St.Philomena’s College on 16th of March, 2024 in the MBA Conference Hall, from 10:30am to 1:30 pm.
The program was presided over by Rev .Dr. Bernard Prakash Barnis, Rector & Manager and Dr. Ravi JD Saldanha, Principal. Mr. Ronald Prakash Cutinha , Vice-Principal – Administration , Mr. Thomas.A. Gunasheelan, IQAC coordinator, were also present in the program. The program was convened by Ms. Florence Anil, Assistant Librarian , and Dr. Deepa V, IQAC Co-cordinator was the master of ceremony. Dr. Issac George HoD-MBA Department delivered the welcome address. All the MBA & MCA staff, few staff from the UG Department and the entire batch of 120 students from MBA & MCA attended the event.
Dr. Sunil M.V, Assistant Professor – Systems & General Management, SDMIMD, Mysore was the Key note speaker and delivered the technical talk on the importance of Library sciences in the field of Management and highlighted the multiple applications of the library resources, especially databases in Business research and decision making. Dr. Sunil encouraged the students to make the best use of the learning resources- both physical and e-databases available at the St.Philomena’s Library- one of the oldest and enriched libraries of Mysore.
The next session was handled by Mr. Rathish Iyer Manager Training & Business Development Informatics Publishing Ltd. Mr.Ratish Iyer, spoke about the Effective Utilization of J-Gate for Learning, Teaching, Research and Project Work. He introduced the students to the J-Gate- comprehensive database and gateway to access research information from over 80 Million journal articles from 59,000+ journals covering multiple subject domains. Mr. Iyer provided real-time demonstration to the students about the usage and application of J-Gate , which included the new functionalities of J-Gate, different Search options and Searching Techniques and Individual Profile creation.
The last session was handled by Mr. M S Srinivasa, Training Manager -South Training & Business Development EBSCO information Services Bengaluru. Mr. Srinivas introduced the students to the EBSCO database and elaborated on the vast domain of articles, journals and e-books of multiple disciplines available in EBSCO. He highlighted the use of databases for the students in their curriculum and research. He also conducted a quiz at the end of the session to ensure the knowledge transfer from his session and awarded prize to the two students who scored the highest points- Ms. Joyce and Ms. Ayesha, both from the department of MBA.
The event concluded with all raising for the National Anthem.
