The Annual Athletic Meet 2024 – 25 was held by St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysuru organized by the Department of Physical Education. In this meet students from Undergraduate courses displayed their talents and sportsmanship. The objectives of the Annual Athletic Meet were to promote physical fitness, enhance team capabilities, develop sports skills, and foster personality growth. The event embodied these principles, providing our students with a platform to develop both physically and mentally.


The NCC Cadets accompanied the esteemed chief guest and other dignitaries, alongside the St. Joseph School Band to Football grounds. Mr. Akash Wary and his team commenced the event by invoking divine blessings with a heartfelt hymn. Mr. Anthony Moses, International Athlete and Ekalavya Awardee – 1999, Physical Education Director, Teresian College and the chief guest of the event, inaugurated the meet by hoisting the College Flag, symbolizing the spirit of unity and competition. Following the formal inauguration enthusiastic undergraduate students participated in a March Past. A total of 15 teams, all aiming for the cup for the best team performance, took part in the event with much zeal and enthusiasm. Ms. Suchitra, 2nd year BCA, introduced the contingent to the chief guest and other dignitaries. |
: Rev. Dr. Lourdu Prasad Joseph, Rector, St. Philomena’s Educational Institutions, administered the oath and was received by the students Sports Representative Mr. Prem Raj P, who participated at South Zone Inter University Handball Tournament, from 2nd May to 06th May 2024, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala, along with the flag bearers.


: Mr. Anthony Moses, the Chief Guest began his speech with a Kannada proverb, “Yelle mare kaiyi,” emphasizing the importance of giving one’s best effort regardless of the outcome. He highlighted that sports is not just about winning or losing but about discipline, teamwork, achievement, focus, confidence, and character-building. He shared the inspiring story of Michael Philips, a legendary swimmer who faced a severe shoulder injury but, through perseverance and practice, went on to win eight gold medals at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. The story underscored the values of resilience and dedication in overcoming challenges.
The Chief Guest celebrated the spirit of participation and emphasized the importance of consistent effort, vision, and turning hobbies into strengths. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to St. Philomena’s Institution for its support and guidance, acknowledging the role of the faculty and management in shaping students’ futures. In his closing remarks, he urged students to rise above challenges, focus on hard work, and achieve success with determination and communication. He inspired everyone to embrace the journey of sportsmanship with enthusiasm and strive for excellence in every step of life.

: The MC of the event was Ms. Manya, Ms. Kashvi welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering to the event. Ms. Suchitra introduced the Chief Guest to the gathering. Ms. Suvaiba Hanzala proposed the vote of thanks.
The annual Athletic Meet 2024 – 25 at St. Philomena’s College brought together students from BA, B.SC, B.COM, BCA, BBA, BBA-TH, and B.VOC streams, there were 202 students who participated in the events, fostering a spirit of competition. The event featured various athletic competitions where students showcased their talents, earning exciting cash prizes, trophies, and certificates. Bombing the city, a fun game involving teaching, non-teaching staff, and management, added to the lively atmosphere.
Individual Championship was bagged by Akash Wary (SL220796) and Sharon (SN240506) respectively.
Dr. Ravi J D Saldanha, Principal, commended the prize winners, organizers, and participants for their contributions to the event’s success. The day celebrated remarkable teamwork and sportsmanship, reflecting the college’s commitment to holistic education. The event underscored the resonating with the spirit of unity and sportsmanship embraced by St. Philomena’s College.
