HIV/AIDS Awareness Programme

In Collaboration with the MEWA Institute,under the leadership of Ms.Deepthy M J (The HOD,BSW Department), Mr.Mathew C and Mrs.Anjum Aliya.

LOCATION – MEWA Educational and Vocational Traning Centre, Shanthinagar , Mysore.

DATE – 18th December 2021 , Saturday.

Number of people who attended the programme-

• 35 women from the organisation MEWA
• 30 students from 1st,2^nd and 3^rd year department of BSW

REVIEW OF THE DAY

The Social Work Trainees along with the Faculty Supervisors reached the organisation by 10:30 am on 18th December 2021 , Saturday. The programme started  by 10:45 am , with the arrival of the women from the institution . The programme was conducted within the organisation MEWA. After a brief introduction and a hearty welcome to everyone present over their by the Faculty supervisors of the BSW department , the social work trainees of 3rd year performed an inspiring role play based on HIV-AIDS with a narration relating to the HIV – AIDS . The President of the organisation – Mr.Aejaz Ahmed Sharieff gave a session about their institution and the programme concluded by 12:15 pm .

OBJECTIVES OF THE AWARENESS PROGRAMME

World AIDS Day 2021 :- This year the theme of the day is “End Inequalities, End AIDS”

Highlighting the fact that as much as the virus itself, the social stigma attached with it also greatly affects people. Based on which the 3rd year social work trainees of the BSW department planned and practiced to deliver a role play for creating an awareness regarding:-

The betterment of the society through  positive approach towards HIV/AIDS

• To increases the knowledge about HIV/ AIDS
• To demolish the stigma situated around HIV/AIDS .
• Enhancement to earlier referral to prevention, care, treatment and support for persons who are newly identified as being HIV positive
• Awareness raising knowledge which includes: Information and education about HIV / AIDS .
• Support to the infected and affected personnel.

OUTCOME OF THE PROGRAMME

The social work trainees were able to successfully deliver the message through roleplay.

• The women who were gathered there were able to educate themselves about HIV/AIDS & to avoid the unwanted stigma relating to HIV/AIDS.
• Not only the women gathered there but also the social work trainees were also able to educate themselves about HIV/AIDS.
• Awareness was given without the audience being bored , the audience were interested to watch the role play .
• Social work trainees were able to portray the myth sustaining in the society where people who were HIV positive were seen as a stigma and were able to demolish the fact .
• Through the role play , the importance of Non- Judgmental Attitude and need of support from family , friends and society towards the people who are HIV positive and to help them fight back and return to their daily normal life was portrayed .

The President of the Organisation –Mr. Aejaz Ahmed Sharieff , greatly appreciated the social work department for portraying such an inspirational role play and recommended the department of social work to do similar  activities in future regarding the social problems for the empowerment , upliftment and betterment of the society.
