A brief report on industry visit to Reid and Taylor (Experiential learning) held on 28th May 2024
The Department of Commerce organised an industrial trip to Reid and Taylor 5M5M+PQG, Thandya Industrial Area, Thandavapura, Nanjangud, Karnataka 571301 on the 28th of May 2024.
Final year B. Com,32 students visited the plant with the Dean of Commerce and Management Dr. Reena Francis, Assistant Professor Ms. Juhie Singh and Assistant Professor Mr. Sandesh D’souza.
The industrial trip started with an introduction by the HR department of Reid and Taylor. Students learnt the entire process of manufacturing textiles and in particular acquiring raw materials, weaving and packing the finished products. The company also exports materials to various countries.
The Company HR led the entire team through all the process involved in manufacturing with a detailed explanation at each stage of manufacturing. It was a very detailed and interesting tour of the entire plant. Students appreciated the resources and the expenses involved in manufacturing textiles.
Students also learnt the structure of the plant layout and its importance in reducing cost and minimising wastage.
The biggest take away from the industrial trip was students said that they would not bargain with sellers in the future especially manufacturing sectors as they understood the huge process and effort involved in manufacturing textiles.
