EXPERIENCIAL LEARNING ACTIVITY
A report on the visit to Sri.Venu Gopalaswamy Temple
The Department of History at St. Philomena’s College organized an experiential learning activity as part of its extension program for the 5th-semester History students on October 10, 2024. A group of 19 students participated in this enriching experience, accompanied by two faculty members, Dr. Prashanth D.A., Assistant Professor in the Department of History, and Prof. A.T. Sadebose, Associate Professor of Kannada.
The group visited the historic Sri Venugopalaswamy Temple, located at the backwaters of the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Reservoir near Hosa Kannambadi village. The students gained valuable insights into the architectural and historical significance of the temple, which dates back to the 12th century and represents the grandeur of Hoysala architecture.
The visit also highlighted the resilience and efforts involved in preserving this heritage. The temple, which was submerged for several years due to the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagar Dam, was successfully relocated and restored under the supervision of the Khoday Foundation, spearheaded by Sri Hari Khoday.
Through this visit, the students were exposed to the intricate features of Hoysala temple architecture and the efforts required to safeguard historical monuments. This hands-on experience enriched their understanding of India’s cultural and architectural heritage.
