In 2012 Web Designing Diploma was  introduced as an integrated course which helps the students to learn technologies to develop their own dynamic Webpages. This will also increase the employability of students. Networking is made as a part of curriculum for BCA students and is also open to other disciplines like commerce, management, and basic physical sciences. In 2014 , in collaboration with the SAP technologies, the department offered  SAP course for all streams of students. 01 level and B1 level courses are also offered at an affordable price to all the students.

An extension activity such as “Animation course” for low-income (minority) students was provided.

The department has 5 laboratories which  can accommodate more than 100 students with individual systems simultaneously and are supported by a team of skilled technical staff  to enhance learning experience for students.

As per the requirements of the IT industry these days, our students are trained to learn and adapt themselves to the new concepts and innovation of software and technology. This is possible for them as assignments given to them are not from the syllabus but outside the syllabus. As higher education is all about facilitating rather than mere classroom teaching, the department takes care to help the inquisitive students to develop their research skills.

People from Industry helps us in understanding the industrial requirements and as per their advice a new concepts are introduced as part of ciriculum. An old student of St. Philomena’s college, Mr. Arun Solomon, who works as a Manager IT at L&T, Mysore, provides technical support for our labs. In a seminar organised by the department on VMware  His expertise was utilised in networking issues. Mr. Balaji from SDMIMD offered training in SPSS Software for the faculty and an additional one day workshop on the same subject was conducted by the IBM Company to facilitate the faculty.
