EXTENSION PROGRAM” VISIT TO GIRLS ORPHANAGE AT LASKAR MOHALLA

Department of Commerce with two faculties and around 20 students (numbers restricted) visited girl’s orphanage having around 50 students (approx.) which is situated at Lashkar mohalla Mysore on 10-06-2023 Saturday at 3:30 pm. The intension of the visit was to educate especially the children regarding importance of education, hygiene and character building. The response was very good and more than 40 children gathered at the venue set for the interaction.
The crowd was managed by the warden as well as the faculty of the orphanage who took keen interest in making all arrangements for such a gathering and also helped in communicating in their vernacularism language which helped in the smooth conduct of the programme. Final year B.com students planned this event and executed it in the best manner. Students volunteered and from the department sponsored around 50 pieces of cakes, samosa chips, tetra juice packet and few stationeries.
Ms Amreen Kousar Assistant professor welcomed the gathering and explained the intension of the visit. Final year B.com students enacted a skit which was focused on importance of being clean hygiene and importance of education. The children observed and heard what the college students were doing and later pertaining to skit questions were posed for which the kids answered very well. Few games were conducted for the children of the age group of 5 to 18 years for which prizes were distributed for the winners and all the prizes were planned and sponsored by the department. Children were all happy and they thanked and requested us to visit them again. The department faculties and students felt that the efforts taken was worth and it was received very well by the children. Ms Amreen Kousar and Ms Malini B M faculty of commerce department thanked everyone who had gathered there and supported for the smooth conduct of the programme. Also acknowledged the initiative taken by the commerce students of St. Philomena’s College for having concern over the children there. Also students expressed their happiness and said they happily enjoyed the visit spending time with the kids. Students even said we got to know the talent in each child and these kids can even have a good future. It was indeed a good experience both for faculties and students. Faculties also thanked the Principal and the college management for the support in providing transportation facility and encouragement given to educate our students with a practical experience. The program concluded at 5.30 pm.
