INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

“Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well being”.
International day of Yoga is also called as the world yoga day. United Nations General Assembly has declared 21st of June as an International Yoga Day on 11th of December in 2014. Yoga in India is considered to be around 5000 year old mental, physical and spiritual practice. Yoga was of meditation to transform their body and mind. Launching a particular date of practicing yoga all across the world and celebrating as yoga day was initiated by the Indian Prime Minister to the United Nations General Assembly.
St. Philomena’s Educational Institutions Management organized a Virtual Mode Programme for the staff and students of St. Philomena’s College.
The members present were Rev. Dr. Bernard Prakash Barnis, Rector, St. Philomena’s Educational Institutions, Rev. Fr. Maria Xavier, Vice-Rector, St. Philomena’s Educational Institutions, Rev. Fr. John Paul, Campus Administrator, St. Philomena’s Educational Institutions, Dr. Alphonsus D’Souza, Principal Degree College, Mr. Vidhyadhar Sanjay Nair, Vice-Principal, Degree College, Mr. Orthbert Pinto, PG Director, Mr. Dominic Britto Rayan, Controller of Examination and Mr. Prakash Cutinha, IQAC coordinator.
The speaker for the day was Yoga Guru Sri Venkatesh, a yogi by nature with full of energy and zest. A person who teaches the students the importance of Yoga that is in the program of study. His topic was on “Physical Fitness through YOGA”.

There were about 100 participants who took part in the International Yoga Day celebrated on 21st June 2021 from 9.00 am to 10.00 am.
