“National Pollution Day Celebration’’
The Department of Environmental Studies organized a guest lecture to observe “NationalPollution Control Day “ on 29th November at 11.30 am in the College auditorium. The lecture was delivered by Dr. T. S. Harsha Rao, Assistant Professor, Karnataka State Open University, Mukhthagangothri, Mysore. The lecture was organised for all the students pursuing their environmental studies course in their first semester viz. BCA, B.Sc. students.
Ms.SyedaAfiya , 1st B.Sc. student was the MC for the program, Ms.TanviMalyaintroduced the speaker and Ms.UmmeRuman gave vote of thanks.
The topic of the guest lecture was
“Prevention of Pollution : Challenges & Solutions”
The expected objectives and outcomes of the programme were
- To give information on sources of pollution
- To inculcate the habit of preventing pollution at an individual level.
Dr.Harsha spoke on the significance of the day. He emphasised on the fact how Bhopal gas tragedy in Madhya Pradesh, continues to haunt mankind as one of the worst manmade disasters. The gas wreaked havoc on the residents, inducing agonising issues such as burning eyes, blindness, respiratory problems, and cognitive impairments. Beyond the immediate impact, the aftermath of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy is endured by survivors and future generations.
He also spoke on different types of pollutions like air,water, marine, noise,thermal pollutions etc.,the causes and consequences of these pollutions. The challenges faced in combating these pollutions. With his informative powerpoint presentation, Dr.Harsha spoke on how we sometimes without our knowledge end up releasing pollutants.
He also emphasised on the fact that if we don’t check on various pollutions now only,tomorrow could be too late. He encouraged students to have more knowledge about the environment and the importance of nurturing it. He concluded his talk by making the students aware about the ill effects of pollutions and suggested possible solutions to be adopted
