INAUGURATION
he Department of MCA in association with IQAC, St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysuru, organized a session on “Emerging Technologies in the Digital Era” in celebration of National Technology Day 2026 on 11th May 2026 at the MCA Conference Hall. The programme commenced with the rendition of the Philo’s Anthem and witnessed enthusiastic participation from MCA and MBA students.
The session was gracefully hosted by Rebecca, a first-year MCA student, while the welcome address was delivered by Lavanya of first-year MCA. The event was graciously inaugurated by IQAC Coordinator Prof. Thomas A. Gunaseelan. The resource person for the session was Mr. Shreyas M. S., Co-Founder of TechCentrix, Mysore, and the guest introduction was presented by Umme Kulsum.
The session focused on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, Blockchain, IoT, Robotics, AR/VR, and Digital Marketing. The resource person explained the impact of these technologies on industries, businesses, and everyday life, while also guiding students about future career opportunities and the importance of skill development and innovation.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Praise, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem, marking the successful completion of the National Technology Day 2026 celebration.



OBJECTIVE OF THE SESSION
The primary objective of the session was to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of emerging technologies that are shaping the modern digital world. The session aimed to create awareness about technological advancements such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), Data Science, Robotics, AR/VR, and Digital Marketing Technologies. It also focused on helping students understand the impact of these technologies on industries, businesses, and everyday life. The programme intended to motivate students to upgrade their technical skills, engage in innovation, develop practical projects, and prepare themselves for future career opportunities in the rapidly evolving digital e
The resource person began the session by explaining the concept of the digital era and how technology has become deeply integrated into everyday human life. He emphasized that the world is rapidly moving towards complete digital transformation where everything is interconnected through online platforms and smart systems. He discussed how businesses today rely heavily on data-driven decisions and AI-powered services to improve efficiency and user experience. Social media platforms, digital communication, and online ecosystems were highlighted as major contributors to the growth of the digital lifestyle.
One of the major highlights of the session was the discussion on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The resource person explained how AI technologies such as Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Machine Learning are revolutionizing industries and daily life. He discussed real-world applications including Netflix recommendation systems, Face ID technology, smart agriculture systems, self-driving vehicles, and conversational AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini. He also emphasized the importance of Prompt Engineering and explained how AI is becoming a powerful tool for automation and smart decision-making. A key takeaway from the discussion was that AI may not directly replace humans, but individuals who effectively use AI technologies will have a competitive advantage in the future job market.
The session became highly interactive as the speaker engaged students through thought-provoking questions and real-world examples. Discussions were conducted on Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Blockchain, IoT, Robotics, AR/VR, and Digital Marketing Technologies. Students learned how cloud platforms such as Google Drive, AWS, and iCloud are used for data storage and institutional systems like ERP and online attendance. The speaker also explained cybersecurity threats including phishing attacks, OTP scams, fake emails, and social media hacking, stressing the importance of digital security in modern life. IoT applications such as smart homes, health tracking devices, connected cars, and smart farming systems were discussed in detail.
The resource person elaborated on how Data Science and Big Data are used by companies for product recommendations, demand prediction, targeted advertisements, and customer behavior analysis. He explained how social media and search engines track user activity through cookies and analytics. The session also focused on Digital Marketing Technology and demonstrated how even small businesses can grow successfully through online platforms using content creation, video editing, monetization, and Google Business tools. The speaker encouraged students to think entrepreneurially and identify real-world problems that can be transformed into startup opportunities in sectors such as shopping, food delivery, and transportation.
Towards the conclusion of the session, Mr. Shreyas M. S. highlighted various career opportunities available in the digital era, including Software Development, AI Engineering, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, Prompt Engineering, UX/UI Design, and Digital Content Management. He advised students to focus on gaining practical knowledge, building projects, improving communication skills, and completing internships at an early stage rather than merely collecting certificates. The speaker motivated students to remain curious, innovative, and adaptable to technological changes in order to succeed in the competitive digital world.
