Introduction:
Organization of the workshop in the institution helped to promote the research inclination and the scientific temperament among faculty members to meet the contemporary need of educational requirements. The workshop provided a platform for intellectual deliberation pertaining to the research area. The workshop aimed to nurture research culture in institutions for the pathway to the world of innovation. The workshop was intellectual assistance and encouraged the faculty members to publish qualitative research papers for the accomplishment of educational milestones in higher education.
Objectives:
- To nurture scientific inclination among academicians of the institutions.
- To promote research sustainability for the growth of educational institutions.
- An insight into the method of research proposal writing.
- To encourage the optimum utilization of funding agencies for the research promoting work.
- To inculcate and encourage research culture among faculty members.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), Mysore in collaboration with the college Research and Development Cell (RDC) organized an effectuated Workshop on “Writing Research Proposals to Funding Agencies” on 13th April 2023 in Data Analysis Centre of the college.
Dr. Deepa V, Assistant Professor, Department of BBA welcomed the dignitaries and the staff members. Miss. Vincy S, Assistant Professor, Department of Food Science and Nutrition introduced the Guest Speaker of the program Dr. Premkumara G S, DoS in Economics, Sir M V PG Centre, Tubinakere, University of Mysore, Mandya.
Dr. Premkumara G S delivered an eloquent speech on the objectives of Writing Research Proposals to Funding Agencies. He stated the remarkable role of writing research papers and getting financial grants. He illustrated the kind of qualitative research proposals the agencies might fund and suggested there should be an equal inclination from funding agencies, institutions, and researchers. He emphasized preparedness of the researchers to work on prolific research papers to get funds before they start writing the proposal. He restated the prominence of the educational institution to work for the long-term goals inclusive of the research growth of an institution.
He emphasized the notable elements of good research writing including research aptitude and analytical ability for the sustenance of research quality. He suggested faculty members intellectually strengthen the institution through comprehensive plans and research-inclined works. He concisely explained the necessary criteria and steps involved in writing a proposal including a Title, an Introduction, a Review of Literature, and the Statement of the Problem, an Objective, a Hypothesis, Methodology, Outcomes, Resources, Budgeting, and Evaluation. He demonstrated the sample proposals which were submitted to the government funding agencies like the Forest Ministry and ICSSR. The session ended with much beneficial panel discussion and resulted intellectual deliberation among faculty members.
The organized Workshop on “Writing Research Proposals to Funding Agencies” benefitted the faculty members and encouraged an effective research culture and it was an insight for the educational institutions to revisit research-centric works.
Profile of the Guest Speaker
Dr. Premakumara, G.S, Professor, Department of Economics, Sir M.V. PG Centre, University of Mysore, Mandya.
Dr. Premakumara G S has been in service since 1999. He has been awarded many achievements like the UGC Research Award 2012-14, New Delhi, IUC Associate, IIAS Shimla 2014-16, Best Paper Award in International Conference at Jaipur 2013, Highly Commanded Paper Award in International Conference at Chiang Mai, Thailand 2014, Best Researcher in Applied Econometrics by University of Mysore 2017 and GOK honor for the best of works 2012. He is Associated with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, the Indian Association for Canadian Studies, and Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai, Thailand. He is also the Member of the Planning Commission of India Chair, and UOM. He is the Principal Investigator of ICSSR, Major Project. He worked for WRI (Washington DC) on the Clean Energy Project’. He was awarded Ph.D. for working on ‘Power Sector Reforms and has successfully guided 13 scholars for their Ph.D. Awards and 18 scholars for their M.Phil. Awards. He has done prolific publications and articles in 4 Books, 81 journal research articles, edited 21 books, and attended 38 International Conferences, and more than 100 National Seminars and Conferences. He has delivered more than 100 special lectures on research, econometrics, and current issues at various institutions in India and abroad. His proficiency and wide knowledge in the field of Data Analysis, Model Building, Interpretation of Results, and Handling Software: SPSS, E-Views and Gretl have encouraged academicians to work for the research sustainability.
